Ah, I still haven't decided which are my absolute favorites.  
I love Chinese dragons and their ability to survive and stay agile in any place basically, where it under water, all the way up in the air or inside mountains crawling in tunnels. 
However I think that dragons should have wings.  
Wyverns are awesome and make the most sense -when thinking realistically. But in fantasy literature that I enjoy reading and creating (Dragonlance and such), the lack of forelimbs makes them hard to write in. They have a spot in the world, but not very bright one, I'm afraid.  
I'd adore the four-legged winged ones, but I feel like their anatomy is off somehow. The designs looks cool, but just like a werewolf needs it's tail and looks silly without one, I find that four-legged dragons are missing something and it's out there just waiting to be discovered. ^^ 
 
Whoops..  I didn't mean to start writing a novel here, but I hope you like to read nonsense.

thank you, I have some (ugly) progress images to share if you´re interested, but in general my tip is to put focus on what it is you find most important in the image, the dragon in this case, then the rest is just a meeeh of textures, lasso tool+texture brush, blur effects and it still sort of works^_^ and yes! been thinking up this whole hunting pattern/behaviour for my ice dragons, how they use gas to stay light enough in a pouch in their bellies(since they´re too big to stay airborn otherwise) and the gas can be ignited for a little fireaction but it would make it difficult for the dragons to take flight, meaning the fire is only a last resort thing, and definitely not something to use when you´re miles out to sea^^ The way they track whales are similar to the extra sense of the white shark catching up on the electro impulses in the preys body so she can follow the whales even when they are below the surface for a long time, then once they come back up she pounces...*^*

I would LOVE to see progress pics! I'm currently fleshing out the first few portfolio artwork attempts so I am gladly willing to gobble up all your precious advice!
Your dragon behavior and the synapsis of humans and dragons working together really breaths life into them! I could really picture a BBC nature documentary about them hehe
And never under estimate lasso tools and texture brushes ID
