Wow!!! You have just stunning inkings very beautiful. I so wish I could ink like this. What kind of pens do you use? Or do you use brushes?

I love how you use your crosshatching sparingly which makes it even more wonderfully done. You leave plenty of white space for you colorist but not too much. Very nicely done. Beautiful, just beautiful! I also love how you change the thickness of your lines to give it depth. I struggle with this a lot. A wonderful picture. Very nice!!!

Thanks! I use brushes for most of my work. Backgrounds and hard likes are done with tech pens... mostly Micron Pigmas.
Keep practicing... the more you work at it, the better you will get! Good luck!!

You're welcome! Oh okay cool. I do all my inking digitally. I'm not very good with controlling my pens and it's really messy. So I like doing it digitally. But I would love to be able to do both. Do you ink on the original art work or do you use a light box? I want to get a light box and start using that. BUT THEY ARE SO EXPENSIVE!!! Especially when you are a teen who doesn't have a job yet! hahahaha Thanks for answering my questions. I'm honored to even be talking to a professional!

I ink over the original pencils if I can, if not, I print bluelines of the pencils onto strathmore bristol. This aloows me to see the lines, but not have the excess pencils show during the scan.
And I would suggest bypassing the lightbox and get yourself a 13x19 printer and an 11x17 scanner! Expensive, but very worth it.

Oh yes interesting. I've heard of inkers doing that as well. It sounds nice. But I don't know if I could ever save up for a scanner that big! I just scan my art into two halves and stitch them together in Photoshop. Yeah I'm sure the light box isn't as nice as inking on bluelines but I also need it for my pencilings so that I can do the roughs and then go over them with marker to pop up the details I like and then taking it to the light box. Although I do know that if you aren't careful you can accidentally take away the energy of the piece by doing that. Hopefully that won't happen! What do you think of people inking their work on the computer? Honestly? WOW!!! That was long! Sorry for taking so much time away from you!

I am not a huge fan of digital inking, but if it is done well, it looks just as good. My only problem with it is that afterward, you have no original pages to sell... a big part of a comic artist's income comes from selling original art. If you dont have that, you are loosing out. Just my opinion.

Oh yeah, I know originals sell for quite a lot! I would have a hard time selling something that I have spent so much time on though! But I guess you have inked so many pencilings you lose track huh? So when you sell your inked originals and you inked on the original pencilings how you do you split the money? I don't have to worry about that as much now since I do the all of the work myself. But I really wish I could become a better inker. I'm not very good at all now! This is how I ink [link] . Not that great. huh... oh well hopefully I will learn how to do that crosshatching. I just don't get how you make it looks so GOOD! Thanks again for taking the time to talk to me! I never thought I would have the honor of talking to a professional!

RolandParis In reply to Faithful-Imagination [2012-12-24 14:35:54 +0000 UTC]

pages are split up by the company usually, so you dont know which pages you are going to get. The inker gets a third of the book, and the penciller gets two thirds. That way you dont have to split the money with the penciller! You can sell the pages you get for any price someone is willing to pay for it.
Crosshatching is tough... just keep practicing, you will get it eventually!

Oh okay interesting. You know the more you explain it the more that sound familiar. I have read so many books on how to do comics that I just forget all this helpful info. hehehe Okay I will!

Yes sir, I know, but I believe that even the best pencils would look even better if inked by a very good inker! (I still wish I could find one :-D)

Thank you very much for the praise, as well!

that would be a topless mud fight betwen
red sonja and a pair of italien twins ladies.
