Description A quick little drawing to celebrate Pride Month and show my support for the LGBT+ community, while also conveying a message about woke brands.

Now, for the record, I'm a straight cis male, but I'm not interested in romantic relationships (at least for now), and I hesitated to make this drawing because I was afraid its message would be misinterpreted.
I consider myself an LGBT+ ally, and my point is that supporting LGBT+ people should be more than just wearing the rainbow colours while not actually doing much to help LGBT+ people, like brands, who have considerably more power than single individuals like me, often tends to do.
Supporting the LGBT+ community goes from giving them positive representation in the media to supporting their rights, to denounce and fight the prejudices they're facing. If you're not LGBT+, don't wear pride colours just to make yourself look good, do it because you really support the LGBT+ !

Or you can just like rainbows without any other signification than a random rainbow. How many times I saw people asking me about my rainbow shocker I bought in the 90' when it was trendy even if it's not even related. It's kinda boring.

counterpoint: even just spreading positive vibes about the lgbt community actually DOES help because it's normalizing it as a positive part of society and giving bigots less space to feel comfortable in their hatred. we WANT casual support and advertisement saturation to be a thing because even if it's not being done for the right reasons, it's a step in the right direction and we really can't afford to nitpick the few sources of support we can get just yet. beggars can't be choosers and all that jazz.

I do agree with what you say. I just want to mean we could always go one step further.
While I understand it's hard for individual people to make a huge difference on their own and expressing their vocal support for the LGBT community can already be enough, I think larger entities must be held to a higher standard.

further down the line, yes, that should be a goal. for now tho, we really can't afford to be so picky. there needs to be a solid foundation of support to fall back on before we start reacting harshly about the reasons behind it. it's like training a dog; if you only ever punish and never reward, the dog will never understand what you want it to do.

I wish more people followed that same mindset. I hate it when people are part of something, just to be just that. Just "to be part of it".

If folks are actually trying to be part of a group, actually show initiative and just do it. Stop with all this pretending bullshit.

Yeah, this is precisely how I feel about brands, from YouTube publicly claiming they support LGBT creators while leaving alone channels that are spewing homophobic and transphobic messages because these give them clicks and money, to Disney awkwardly gay-washing minor characters in their live-action movie remakes and heavily basing their advertisement on the inclusion of a sexual minority. And spare me all those companies doing morally questionable things behind the scenes !

And not to get political, but I feel the same way about centrists, moderate conservatives and even some "shitlibs", you know which type of people I'm referring to ?

Maybe, but you might have to explain to me just to be sure.

I'm referring to people who are portraying themselves as progressives but actually doesn't want bold changes, people who are embracing policies only because they're popular and not by pure conviction... See what I mean ?

Oh !
