Description
that one moment when you think that everything is over,
but at the same time you know that it can only get better.

film / Canon AE-1
october 10, 2010

this photo confuses me because it's the only one I took and it's in focus although there was nothing to actually focus on and I ended up randomly adjusting the settings and just started running and didn't even know if I was in the picture and that's why I love it all the same.

Wie wenn sie gegen das Licht laufen würde und das Licht sie dann "mitnehmen" würde...
(vllt komischer Gedanke, kam mir aber sofort in den Sinn)

When I first looked at this photo I thought it was interesting, then I read the description and it was rather astounding, my whole perception of the image changed and my understanding in which I saw it was totally altered. It seems to me to be expression of freedom and fearlessness, no preparation for the shot, just a fleeting thought of artistry. The figure runs in the open field, small and alone yet carefree and with a power of resolve. Bright light, blinding sky and hazy summer air, hair lit by the sun streaming in the breeze, charging headlong into those trees. Trees looming like the challenges of life , twofold and dark like gray mountains in the distance they stand, barriers that must be surmounted, walls that must be climbed. Everything about this is almost in a way unbelievable, yet it seems that it was perfect without really trying and that‘s why it is perfect. Like a moment of perfect clarity, simplicity and chance combining into an almost elemental form in an image. In a way it doesn’t seem that noticeable until you really start to perceive it. Fate, bravery, resolve, freedom, determination, the very breath of life itself. Like the beat of a heart captured in put in a locket and kept for the rest of your life. That very moment pounding and racing, everything forgotten but that briefest of an instant. Like a first kiss, or love, always with you….. I find it’s very hard to even express in words this photograph, it’s like trying to catch the whistling wind, it swirls all around you, yet you can’t grab hold. That is almost what this photo is like to me, something you can’t fully grasp even though you see it and feel it, you’ll never fully grasp it, and... that... That is amazing.

I am so very sorry it took me such a long time to even read your comment, and reply.
but after I just read it for the first time, what you said at the end is exactly what I think right now. "[...] something you can't fully grasp even though you see it [...]". I'm reading your comment, again and again and again, and I can't believe you wrote that about one of my photos. actually, you worded all of that so well that I feel like I'm in the middle of reading a play from Shakespeare. not because of how you write, but concerning the feelings you convey. and that makes me so proud of the artist of this photo, to make someone sit down and let me know how they feel about it after viewing it.
in a way you are right, this was completely spontaneous. after taking the photo I was almost sure I wasn't in it, and still I didn't take another one. so I actually just ran into the open field without any intention. it just felt right at that moment, to press the button and then start running. but I did only take one photo and that's why your comment makes so much sense to me right now.
this is a very late thank you, but thank you still for writing all that down.

It's fine really. But I am honestly not quite sure what to say in reply. I'm not really sure what I can say. I am very glad that my comment turned out to be so thought provoking. And having such an incredible comparison concerning the conveying of feelings is humbling beyond words... You are more then welcome, it was my pleasure to write it. I just wish I could make a better reply.
Also I have to say that the little stroy just makes the photo seem all the more amazingly elusive.

The idea is very nice. But maybe too high ISO? don't you think?

Rona-Keller In reply to Zeeplay9 [2011-03-09 12:11:51 +0000 UTC]

why would you think that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zeeplay9 In reply to Rona-Keller [2011-03-09 15:49:13 +0000 UTC]

well...there are few reasons: sky is all white (no clouds, no texture, no blue) and the whole picture is noised...thats exactly because of high ISO )

Rona-Keller In reply to Zeeplay9 [2011-04-25 11:47:14 +0000 UTC]

the sky was really cloudy that day, it was basically one big, grey cloud. and as for the noisy part, I'm pretty sure that's because it's film. maybe it was too high, but either way I like the result.
