and so my father died tuesday, after my step-mother died the day before. the smallest things are indeed worthwhile-- coffee in the afternoon, the smell of flowers, the movement of a curtain. but too, the biggest things are worthwhile, and life goes on even when you think everything has surely stopped. birds sing, the smallest thing becomes a chorus.
