For some reason I felt like drawing Sally Acorn. I havnt really drawn her since she got a redesign. For some reason I wanted to give her a sky blue outline so I did yay, it turned out ok but I think i need to plan ahead a bit better when I color pics like this in OCRelated content

I... this is great and all, but all the redesign stuff and the fallout of Penders' power move are still too saddening for me. Archie's Sonic is too sad for me at the moment, and personally I think that if forced to abandon the old Archie Sonic then I think it's time that the SatAM characters were fully retired.

I never liked the Archie Comic canon, personally. It was too convoluted and all the characters seemed... I dunno... hard to relate with.

I like Sally Acorn. She's the only Sonic characters that Sonic falls in love for. ^_^

No, I mean because they broke up. As well as had their entire universe be re-written so it's very likely that they never even dated in the first place, now.

The breakup or the universe rewrite?

Well, long answer: Sally didn't like the thought of Sonic constantly risking his life, so she broke it up with him. Soon their bond turned from a couple into just very good friends. This went on for a few years until their spark started to rekindle. However, around this time Eggman was rebuilding the Death Egg, as well as experimenting with Chaos energy to alter reality. After the freedom fighters' first attempt to destroy it, Sally supposedly died shortly before Eggman activated a wave of Chaos energy to make it so that Sonic had never met the freedom fighters. But in this new reality (which bore a striking resemblance to the first Genesis game), Sonic was able to free the freedom fighters, stop Eggman, and reset reality back to the way it was with Sally alive and well. However, everything turned to hell real quick as all sorts of bad stuff was happening such as Thrash the Tasmanian Devil using his powers to send all the echidnas (except Knuckles) to an unknown dimension, Antoine being put into a coma, and even Sally being captured and roboticized. While Sonic and his remaining friends were all in the midst of trying to fix all of this, Eggman was still experimenting with altering reality, this time with help from Dr. Wily who had discovered a Chaos Emerald which somehow landed in his universe. The two mad scientists altered reality to create a dimension of their own from where they could rule all, and even used their reality-wiping abilities one more time on both their homeworlds to make their enemies easier to defeat. Fortunately, Sonic and Mega Man were able to team up and stop the two doctors from screwing up the multi-verse more than they already had. Mega Man was able to reset his universe back to the way it was, but Eggman interrupted Sonic before he was able to do so, further altering the reality of Sonic's world. Back in his universe, Sonic was shocked to find nearly everything had changed from the reality he had previously known, including Sally and Antoine being back to normal while past events that had occured were more similar to those which had happened in the official SEGA games like Perfect Chaos's attack on Station Square, the invasion of the Black Arms, Eggman capturing the Wisps, ETC. And it all goes back to this new reality's past where Sally was inspired by Sonic's heroics to form the freedom fighters, but it's in this new reality where they never had a romantic chemistry and have only had a relationship that went as far as very good friends. Pretty soon, the last remaining bit of evidence of them having something special, Sonic's memories of the old universe, faded away as Sonic's mind adjusted to this new reality, with a wave of new memories replacing them all. So now, Sonic, Sally, and all their friends are currently living their new lives in this new reality where not much has changed, really; Sonic is still leading the FFs against Eggman's army, Knuckles is still guardian of the master emerald (and even has a new lady-friend), and some third thing similar to the old Archie canon. It's just that Sonic and Sally never had a love interest, and it doesn't look like they ever will again.
Short answer: Writer Ian Flynn split them up for drama's sake with intention of reuniting them later on, but after ex-writer Ken Penders sued SEGA for "stealing his ideas" for Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, SEGA decided to keep a stronger grip on Archie and how they treated their characters to teach them who was in charge. They didn't like Sonic being in a serious relationship, so that had to go. But Penders wasn't satisfied with his win over SEGA, so he then decided to sue Archie to get the rights back to the "totally original characters" he wrote up for the comic so that he could use them in his own projects. Since Penders had made so many, when Archie couldn't use them anymore, the comic became a huge mess with no idea as to what to do next. So Archie turned to every comic book company's emergency insurance: universal retcon/reboot. So they had a big crossover with Mega Man to keep the readers distracted while they worked up a new universe with new characters, elements, and all while trying to make it as similar to the games' canon as possible.
Super short answer: a bunch of writers/executive/copyright/business crap.

So does that mean A, There's no more Sonic X Sally stuff, and B, is Amy going back to force Sonic to marry her again? Cause If so, I'll be very disappointed as to my favorite Archie Sonic couple, getting destroyed.
