Description A revisit of my first squadron, VF-115, and a more structured display of their various paint schemes whilst flying the F-14 Tomcat. VF-115 flew the F-14 Tomcat from 1978 to 2010, flying both the A and B models. in 2011, they completed transition to the F-21A Thunderhawk ( ronin201.deviantart.com/art/F-… ) and also switched from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic Coast.

The top paint scheme is their initial livery, worn from 1978 to 1982. During this time they would be flying with CVW-9 off the OFS Eagle. The paint scheme saw a change in colors regarding the tail, reversing the black and blue for some time.

The second scheme returned the tail fin's setup to the more traditional color placement of the squadron colors. This particular scheme would stay with them from 1983 to 1992. In 1983, VF-115 joined the carrier and air wing it would stay with for the next 25 years: the newly (in 1983) commissioned OFS Stinger and CVW-5. In 1991 the squadron received the F-14B Tomcat and in 1984 the squadron received TARPS capability.

The third paint scheme details the squadron's colors from 1992 to 2008, specifically its CAG bird (y'all have seen the standard colors several times). During this time, VF-115 would see its first major fight using the F-14: The 1995 Belkan War. The squadron would prove itself a powerful force, downing a number of BAF fighters with few losses of their own.

The last paint scheme shows a stark change from the colorful fighters above it (A/N: this is more of me just look at low-viz, since I don't usyally embrace it). from 2008 to 2010, the squadron would fly off OFS Hawk with CVW-14, seeing combat during the 2010 Circum-Pacific War. By now they had expanded their role to include precision bomb-dropping for a number of years (receiving their LTS pods in 1997).

Very nice.

One thing though:  The LANTIRN Pod on the last Tomcat is on the wrong side of the aircraft.  Tomcats only ever carried LTS on the right shoulder pylon.

That was done on purpose to showcase the pod.
