Description Effle drummed his fingers on the table in his apartment impatiently. He was waiting for Elffe who was supposed to bring him a new map of Felarya, but it was taking longer than he thought. Effle had run out of shirts by now from growing too big for them, yet they seemed to shrink fine with him. He had gone out in secret and tested his limits to discover a few facts about himself.

One, he couldn't teleport. This meant he was still vulnerable to all the creatures around him, and would have to avoid being eaten for a long time until he figured out how to escape a stomach.

Two, All his clothing and apparel could shrink when he did, yet only his apple pouch and dagger would grow with him. This means he would be butt naked every time he grew, and stay that way after he shrank making for very uncomfortable situations.

Three, He had two forms of wing styles. One was the lengthened version that could be used for long distance gliding, where the bottom two wings would grow to about twice their normal size and become pointy near the end. The other was the short one, where he could use to jump to ridiculously high positions, and run faster than he ever had before. If he used the short version of his wings, he could hide them in his shirt and walk around town like a normal person.

Four, his height limits had been set. The tallest he could grow would be the average size of a female naga, while the smallest would be about the same height as a tiny. He had to wait fifteen minutes between each 'apple making', and became extremely hungry if doing so too early. The best way to satisfy this hunger as by eating someone smaller than he was which meant being tiny size would be the most disadvantageous.

Five, he couldn't fly. This meant no 'double-jumping' with his short wings, and he could only glide a far distance with the long ones. This is where his current situation came into play. He had to get a map of Felarya so that he could find some fairy settlement of some sort and be taught in their ways. A short while after that he had an even more brilliant idea. He would find Melany.

Effle stood up and paced the room. He also found a new problem. He couldn't get out of Negav without a shirt or pants because he had realized after bringing up several of his stories at the tavern, that fairies were generally hated. He also posed an enormous threat to the city because he could still come and go through the city's defenses. If he ever wanted to grow big and eat villagers, he could, but the fact that he had been eaten so many times meant that he knew how it felt. Not so much how it felt when you couldn't escape, but… you'd know what he meant.

Effle didn't have it in him to digest someone… but they tasted sooooo good… Now Effle couldn't keep his mind off of eating others. He wanted to try it again, and this time all the way through, but he couldn't find anyone he could eat without regretting he had done it in the first place. And the only way to eat someone was in his case to shove an apple down their throats. If Effle ever figured out how to use magic to shrink others, he would use it often, but it was his weak point and he doubted ever figuring it out.

Effle gave an exasperated sigh; this was taking too long. The door opened. Effle jumped up to the door. "Finally, where have you been-" Zina stood where… Elffe should've… stood. "Eep!" Effle yelped covering him self. He was still naked from the last time he grew and hid behind a table.

"Hey… Effle…" Zina said blushing as much as Effle was "Came to see how you were doing." Effle peaked over the table and saw she had food. His stomach reacted as such and growled loudly voicing its discomfort.

"You haven't heard from Elffe have you?" Effle said moving out around the table and behind his bed while she wasn't looking.
"Yea, he said he had 'it' and was coming back after he finished another errand. What is 'it' exactly?" She asked still not turning around.
"What other errands could he be possibly doing?" Effle thought to himself. "It's nothing to worry about, just forget about it."
"Oh no you don't!" Zina said whirling around. "The last time you went off to do something, you went to hell and back!" She marched up to him. "I demand answers!"

Effle squeaked again and tore the covers off the bed and wrapped it around his waist like a towel. "You said he was coming back soon, right?"
"EFFLE!" Zina yelled, and the door opened for a second time.
"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN-" Effle yelped, but alas, it was Norbert.
"Uh… Am I interrupting something?" he said, also with food in his hands.
Effle 'eep'ed again and fell backwards into the very strong grasp of Zina. "Effle is going on some other trip of his." Zina said darkly.
"You sure Effle? The last time you went on a trip, you went to hell and back." Norbert said still not sure if he should come in or not.
"Have you been talking to her? Have you been talking to him!" Effle said realizing he was surrounded. The door opened again.

"THERE IS NO ONE ELSE I KNOW THAT ISN'T ELFFE!" Effle said jumping out of both their grasps to see who it was. It was a male neko with a box of toys in his hands; his name tag read 'toy salesman'. "I'll come back later…" He said moving on quickly.

"Hey Effle," Elffe said climbing through his window. "Got the 'thing'." Effle saw he had an extra pair of baggy clothes in his hands as well as a new map. Now thoroughly embarrassed, he accepted the clothes thankfully and changed quickly behind the bed. "I got these special, they are said to have 'magical properties', whatever that means."
"What's Effle up to?" Zina and Norbert said at the same time.
"He's going to learn how to fly." Elffe said cheerfully.
"You're WHAT?" Zina said turning to him with a burning rage that he swore he could've cooked marshmallows with, but he was gone with his map before she had the chance to yell more.

Effle was outside of Negav without any troubles. As soon as he was out of sight, he took out his map. He was determined not to get lost this time, and located his position and his destination. There were little faces on this map as well and he should have no problem finding her… if she stayed still forever. Effle sighed and took off his shirt, thinking how great it would be if his wings were longer, and was delighted when it happened. He climbed the nearest tree and jumped, wings extended, and glided off into the forest.

The band of hunters continued their march through the gloomy jungle. The moon was full, and the stars shining, yet it only made their situation worse. The huge wagon bumped and creaked around each and every rock in its path. Two large burly men carried the wagon from the front and four others guarded the back and sides. The leader, with a hat too large for any sensible person to wear, led them through the jungle at a hasty pace. A large sheet covered up the precious cargo, its magical properties concealing and muffling those within. The wagon hit another bump, and the tarp slipped off, exposing dozens of fairies who immediately cried for help and begged for freedom. One of the men quickly covered up the wagon again and they fell silent. As seen from Effle a hundred meters away on the highest branch around, he found he couldn't let them get away with this. His wings became shorter and he thought through his plan once more in his head.

The leader thought he heard something in the bushes behind him, and signaled to the rear guard. They broke off their formation and shuffled through the foliage, looking for anything out of place. They signaled back to him that they couldn't find anything and he exhaled. He was too nervous and turned back to his intended path of travel. A glint of blue out of the corner of his eye was the last thing he saw that day.

Effle shot forward and punched the man in the jaw; his feet were lifted off the ground. Effle was still in the air, and flapped his wings to the side. Faster than he thought physically possible, he flew back into the forest. The man hit the ground three feet back and lay there unconscious. The big men put down the cart and pulled out strange nets from their packs and quickly rushed to their leader. Two in the back, two in the middle, and two in front, one down, and all the time in the world… "Perfect." Effle said.

The man in the back looked up quickly to the sound, and pulled out a net as well. Before he could hold it in both hands, Effle was there. One quick slash across the arm with his dagger and the man sprawled on the floor, close to passing out. Effle saw that he barely even made him bleed and was shocked at his dagger's effectiveness. No time to think about that now. He flapped again and jumped on top of the wagon, and the remaining five men looked up at him. After a dramatic second, he uttered one word. "Sup." He jumped again, tearing the cover off with him, and the area burst into wailing and weeping from the fairies. Everyone was distracted, he had a chance.

He hit the ground running, and his fist was in the next man's stomach in an instant. A second later he was in the air, and a second after that, the next man left the ground the same way. Then, three of the men were around him, surrounding him. They all threw their nets at the same time, and one thought came to mind.

"Spin."

Effle whirled in a circle once, twice, and then three times. The nets in the air were cut to pieces and the men were being blown off their feet. All three of them flew into the air and fell back into trees or behind bushes. One more… Effle stood up and saw the last one with a net in both hands. He looked around at all he did, the fairies, the leader, and his comrades, and ran. Effle let him go, he would want the same thing if he were in his position.

Suddenly, the man gave a cry. Effle turned around just in time to see the man be eaten whole by some creature. Effle's wings twitched, whatever it was, it could eat him too. The creature came to light, and Effle saw a fairy with a small smile on her face. She had a glove on one hand, orange hair, and black eyes. Her wings were like those of a dragon fly and she burped loudly. As she did so, movement out of the corner of Effle's eye made him jump. There were large fairies everywhere, eating the remaining crew that he had just dispatched of.

"Thank you friend, my name is Subeta," She said to him directly. That's when Effle knew she didn't want to eat him because he looked like a fairy!
"Hi, I'm Effle!" He said cheerfully, dropping his guard. Subeta walked over to the wagon and all the fairies inside were cheering. She reached over to grab the wagon with her ungloved hand and recoiled sharply at the touch.
"A magic cage!" She said ruefully. Effle walked over to the bars and examined the back entrance door. It had a lock on it, and Effle really didn't have much to break it with. He took out his dagger, and slashed at it once, and tried to hide his surprised expression when it fell off easily. He opened the doors and all the fairies flew out. Each one came out to kiss him on the cheek or hug his arm and Effle chuckled to himself. The fairy's wings shone in the moonlight and lit up the small enclosure. Effle turned his attention to Subeta again who was talking with a captive fairy.

"Um, excuse me, but can I ask you where I can find the fairy Melany?" She was half distracted with the other fairy, yet pointed into the forest. Effle smiled, thanked her for her help, and rushed back into the forest. It won't be long now…
