Description
Femme Osage Missouri, April 2017.
The first settlers found a dead Osage squaw in the creek, hence the name.
Currently there is a cluster of seven mailboxes across the road from the old general store, but this place never was much more than a village. Most commerce in the area would have been conducted in Augusta, which is five miles away.
At it's height, Femme Osage had a blacksmith, a shoe shop. a general store, a school and one church. Most of those buildings still exist, but only the church is still actively used. From what i could see, most of the houses appear to be old, but nice and in good repair. One of which has been turned into a bed & breakfast.
Someplace nearby is Daniel Boone's house (or maybe it was his son's house).
