Description Truth is not, a Fable

I have lived my life…a sad Truth, is I'm feeling old.

I've seen the folly, war…man's inhumanity, to man.

Perhaps, I watched this planet's finest years unfold,

yet silently shed tears, for Man upsets Nature's plan.

Is History but a fable, that unpalatable, left untold?

I've seen times of hardship…war's patent aftermath,

saw this country prosper, till sabres rattled yet again.

Is, "man learns little of experience" to be our epitaph?

Time on time war's sad equation, indelible and plain,

one glorified by the fable, is tabled at every cenotaph…

I have witnessed Apathy, that bane of common man,

seen government of Nations, sacrificing rank and file…

Seen the despot rule, his successor lurking in the van,

`Might is right', as a mandate, triumphs all the while,

whilst apathy may seem, the creed for any ruling clan.

I feel old, for I sense the monotony, all, as seen before,

'tis, but a different minstrel, recites the same old fable.

Casts of thousands await depletion, as in days of yore,

a generation's bounty suffers, by a loss, of fit and able.

Truth found in a lifetime, History, has chosen to ignore…

Modern man shows Nature, the same patent disregard,

ever nonchalant to indictment for squandering resource.

A quest for affluence and progress, nothing may retard,

he stares blankly at the bed, of a withered water course,

tramples russet grasses, to expose earth coarse and hard.

My weary eyes watch Nature, a capricious wench is she,

a revenge she plots, then implements belittling mankind.

Malevolence dictates, her recompense, to be no token fee,

and still the human blunders on, desecration left behind.

I offer up my silent prayer, her final reckoning not to see…
