Just one question, isn't it a dreadnought, not a dreadnaught?

love it, i'm a bit of a sky ship enthusist, may i ask about its internal functions?, how are you powering these beasts?

through shear will....how might you think they are powered? im not an exoert on these things so if you would be so kind to enlighten me xxx

well i run mine on an series of evaucuated hydrogen chamber's, mounted in a ceramic shell, the main structure is mostly made from a substance similar to areo gel, which has a density similar to that of air , the bubbles in the structure are filled mostly with helium, as are the hollow tensile bars , (everything from support beams to hand rails are hollow and are filled with helium for weight offsetting) and any additional space inside the structure conatains helium gas bags which are inflated or deflated as triming

they are powered usually by an arc reactor system, for larger ships, or standard nuclear reactor for the smaller vessels, this produces the electrical power, as well as heating as a by product at high altitude,

conventional jet engines provide the method of forward thrust on many vessels , as well as turbo fan hybrid systems depending on the design,
fuel for this is often used to trim the ballance of the ship
due to many vessels sheer size , it can take very large engines to fight agaisnt the air ressistance , and so they often depend on huge jet turbines to move and steer

a ready supply of fuel is obtained from sunlight , C02 and water vapour using a rather interesting machine , the Counter-Rotating-Ring Receiver Reactor Recuperator (CR5) [link]
which over time produces enough fuel to sustain the ship above the critical fuel level

water supplies can be obtained in flight by using connsing waer vapour in cloud layers

well i pick and chose from the best science related stuff i can find , its just on the edge of sci fi, stuff just out of reach, i like that stuff, it has enough fantasy to have fun, but enough realsim to be beliveable

what are your thoughts on mining for helium 3 on the moon? possibilities? equipment? im writing a graphic novel based around it its a very interesting subject not too far out of our reach. x

chaos-sandwhich In reply to RookieInc [2012-06-07 13:25:49 +0000 UTC]

hmm, i don't know much about mining on the moon, well not the mining itself, though i did give thought to mining ships, however its been a while, i like the principle though, its a ready source of material, it has useful purposes, and while it wouldn't be easy its relativly close
