Well the Ottoman Empire(Turkey) was pretty strong at some point. It conquered the Byzanthine Empire and then other countries on Balkan and Hungary too in the 14th and 15th century.So at that time the countries that stood in its way (in Europe ) were the Habsburg Empire(Austria) an Venetian Republic(north Italy). So these countries fought The Ottoman Empire countless times (then later on Venetian Republic grew weaker and than ceased to exist when Napoleon conquared it and the Habsburg Empire eventually gave up fighting the Ottoman Empire, Then Russia took over that job xD)(and so on and on)..Its pretty messed up..(and sorry for grammar mistakes -.-)
