The main thing I found that enabled me to make a better version of this was that I actually bothered to research and look up references so that I could have it be as accurate and detailed as I was able to make it. Obviously my methods are very different too (digital drawing as opposed to the old version, which was vectored), but if I'd tried vectoring it again I think I still would have made it better by virtue of going about it more logically.
