I don't know... I'm a fan of shorter poems myself. They're more profound somehow. Though that's just personal preferance.

There is a lovey sense of warmth in this, especially in the first strophe. I wonder, though, if perhaps the thought behind the last part might be "childish nightmares" contrasted with "childlike dreams"?

Effectively yes. I intentionally used the same language to describe them to highlight the differences and the clash between dreams and the nightmares.
