Good to hear. :/
I basically did this random meme as most fans' reaction to it when it was revealed, lol.

I agree with the picture. They should really stick to making fun games, and stop porting the old ones over multiple consoles, multiple times.

I actually like the idea of them targeting a niche audience in their fanbase i.e. people who would never use the 3D function if they had a 3DS. I'm one of those people. Wouldn't mind buying it. Also, am I the only one that's okay with their design?

People need to stop bitching about it.
Even Total Mortal Kombat is pissed off at the people bitching.

Indeed.
While I'm not getting one, I must say it's a good alternative for cheapskates, younger players, or those who don't care about the 3D/those who're prone to seizures with 3D.

I really don't see any purpose in this, other than the fact that it's good for kids who are prone to seizures. Beyond that it's terrible. I did some research on it, and it turns out the Japanese name for it is 'Game Boy,' possibly a foreshadowing to them bringing us back to the old days, but seriously, do we need the old days if we have something as advanced as the 3DS?

The Japanese name is 'Game Boy'? Show me a link or something then.

Bulbapedia is usually on top of stuff, but likely not this time. They linked to Wikipedia, which lists this link as their source when they say that there is actually no planned release of the 2DS in Japan.

Honestly, Nintendo didn't have to make the 2DS. It's basically the exact same system with cosmetic changes, much like the 3DS XL. I understand that Nintendo's showing care to the people who have 3D problems, but it's still essentially the exact same console. However, there's no such thing as a perfect company, and this is another one of Nintendo's follies. It's nowhere near as bad as the CD-I or the Virtual Boy. It's just one of Nintendo's more minor stumbles.
Bottom line, the 2DS honestly didn't have to be made.

You mean it didn't have to be made?
Just like every other "slimmed" or otherwise cost reduced system? GASP!
This is nothing new really, I mean Sony has done like 3 revision of each of their systems, both handheld and stationary.
But for some reason the 2DS is just too much for people.
It's a cost efficient solution for people who just wants to play the games and can't be bothered with the 3D aspect.

TheAwesomeUser In reply to robotwo [2013-10-20 18:51:12 +0000 UTC]
Not really it's kinda pointless
For 7 year olds because the 3D hurt's their eyes: That's what the slider is for!
For people who might break the screens apart: Didn't Nintendo mention at the 3DS reveal that the 3DS has a stronger split screen thingy?
It cost less:........
The reason of a 2DS: For people who can't pay an extra 40$.
I'm sorry, I thought Nintendo systems were for playing games, not for people who can't pay 40$. Nuff said.

Well, I do like how Nintendo is showing care for those who are prone to seizures and don't care about the 3D, but I think making it unfoldable just seems like a bad call. It just doesn't feel right to me. What if you accidentally press the power button, want to go to sleep mode, or just want to put it in your pocket for convenience sake?

Dallenson In reply to Roboclone594 [2013-08-28 23:42:25 +0000 UTC]
That and it screws with games that NEED the DS to be put into sleep mode like Phantom Hourglass.

You know it's been a while since I remember that puzzle. I actually did like that one. It was utterly hilarious when you do it by complete accident and you just go like "Uhhh yeah I ment to do that." I wish there were more puzzles like that because it was a good use of sleep mode.

Ah, but it still ruins the feel as you were closing the DS as if literally copying a mark on a map to your map.

I'm okay with it since it provides a cheaper alternative if you prefer to play the games rather than experience the 3D effect or as you said, children under 6 or prone to epileptic conditions.
