Description Kind of a scene from what I've been working on in RoTD (as I work at a snail's pace on it lol). In the colored doodle: Dryas is on the left, Priam is on the right. In the headshots: Priam is on the bottom/left, Dryas is on the top/right.
---------------------------------------------------
"...[Priam] and I put aside our differences long ago." -Dryas
"Differences? You killed him..." -Dez to Dryas. "How can you be friends with him?" -Dez to Priam
"Because I understand him and his sufferings... I understand what it is to be a son unwanted by a father whose love, if you can call it that, is cruel." -Priam to Dez

A bit of dialogue between Dez, who is visiting the Realm of the Dead/the spiritual world, and her grandfathers. Also, beware that the below contains a bit of heavy topics, mentions of abuse mainly. Dez' family has a long history of abuse which only finally gets broken by her generation (her, siblings, cousins) (at least over time it does. The wounds are still there, but I would call it a success story in the end.) Priam and Dryas are both victims of abuse, both dealing with it in very different ways in life and coming together through understanding each other's pain in death.
----
Priam is Ryjira's father, Grizel and Maleko's brother, and firstborn son of Rekor the ruler of Vyta-Lujyah before Maleko. He was the first leader of Hetur-Aleyk, though he claims the idea of forming this territory separated from Vyta-Lujyah to be all Maleko's (and he's not wrong). He grew up with one parent trying to push him to be a leader, and the other putting him down and calling him weak. Rekor was more than tough on him as others saw it as- he was downright abusive, not physically but certainly emotionally. Priam accepted defeat with his father only to earn disappointment from his mother, Alia, who wanted to see him succeed her and Rekor as leader of Vyta-Lujyah. In Alia's defense she believed in her son and pushed him towards success despite Rekor's abuse, but it only caused confusion in Priam and he had to choose between taking the abuse or disappointing her, all the while she was unaware of what Rekor was doing to their son. Priam chose to break off from the family as soon as he could, living outside of the main pride and instead at one of the outposts around the lake in the north-east of Vyta-Lujyah. His sister, Grizel followed him, and he eventually found happiness there and a much more simple life. He only returned when he heard of his mother's death, not even receiving word of his father's some time before that. It was then that Maleko came up with his wild idea to split Vyta-Lujyah in two.

Dryas, though he was for a long time known as Tuma, was born in Vyta-Lujyah and yet he became the most infamous and hated of all Serr-Cerri's leaders. Son of Lord Ronin Ilti'Xeti of the Mil'Ka pride, Dryas' birth was not an easy one. His mother, Thana struggled to keep herself alive, let alone give birth to her two cubs. She died giving birth to the second, Dryas' sister, who did not survive as well. Ronin blamed Thana's death on Dryas, even though he was just a newborn cub, weak but fighting to stay alive. Ronin in a fit of rage almost killed Dryas if not for the fact others intervened. Ronin was brought to trial and exiled for his crime, but the leaders of Vyta-Lujyah (Rekor and Alia) struggled to decide what would happen to Dryas. By the laws, Ronin had the right to take his son with him, and this is what he did. Dryas' older brother and sister left with their Ronin and their families to protect Dryas from their father. Ronin never tried to kill Dryas directly again, but he made it clear he did not care if his son lived or died. As Dryas got older, if he was ever caught alone by his father Ronin would abuse him physically, forcing him to fight him. Eventually Dryas' brother, Omari (yes, Dryas named his first son after his brother) pushed Ronin out of the family group and for awhile Dryas was safe from his father at least. A year passed and Ronin returned with a band of rogues, determined to finally kill Dryas who was now a young adult. Dryas fought alongside his brother and family against Ronin and his band, but it was a loosing fight. The last thing Dryas saw before running for his life was his father landing a fatal blow on Omari. Dryas in the confusion of the fight was able to get out unnoticed, his brother protecting him one last time by distracting Ronin, and it was that day that Dryas promised not to let Omari's death be in vain. He began to see the true reason for all this suffering was not his father, but rather the unjust laws which put Dryas in that situation and the rulers either too blind or too corrupt to see what kind of misery would follow their ruling of these laws. It was from there he took a new name and he plotted to cripple Vyta-Lujyah and put an end to the Riel'Lujyah family's rule over it. He did not expect falling in love. He did not expect to witness his plans fall apart beneath him as he cracked to pain and misery of loosing that love. He did not predict his end at the paws of his own sons... In his dying moments, he saw all he had done and saw the anger and betrayal in the eyes of his sons, and he regretted it all. He saw his sins and he begged the Stars for mercy.
