It's an unfortunate truth that society is quick to label almost any man interacting with little kids as pedophiles (though usually fathers are not included in this stereotype; but it can happen). Society sees rapists as being only men and ignore or don't believe women rapists exists (they do).
Myself, I never really saw Professor Utonium as a pedophile. He's just a caring father who does whatever he can to look after his 3 girls by himself (and he does a good job of it too).
