The new Hollendart mare arrived yesterday at Rosenhill Farm. Consider Me Wicked, nicknamed Cyrene. It's raining heavily when Virginia reaches the covered arena on the chimera. Faith and Sean are waiting there; they want to see the new horse under saddle. Sean already knows, but Faith is confused when Virginia dismounts and hands her the reins. "Congrats, little sis." she smiles. "Is.. is she mine?" Faith gently pats the strong neck in disbelief. "Well, you don't really own her like Frisky, but you'll be in charge of her training and showing." Virginia answers. "Alone? Like, her training is mine to decide?" So far, Frisky is Faith's own horse but Virginia is their trainer and decides their shows. Same goes for Catsy, although she doesn't own her. Technically also Illusion, but he's more of a trainer for Faith. She has always been closely followed by Virginia or someone else. "Yes. You decide what you train her, when you train her, what shows you want to enter, you name it.. Show us you can do that." Faith nodded with a big smile and got in the saddle. "Basic info?" she asked. "She's 6 years old, eventing prospect, but take it easy - if I may give you advise, start her in individual shows first before you start 3DE's. Remember she's young. I did a few test rides before she came here, so I got to know her a little already. Faith - she's different than what you're used to. Frisky and Catsy are easy, honest horses and Illusion is very careful with you. They're all older, too. Cyrene here has a strong character; she's willing to work, generally, but she can have little outbursts. You're used to riding very gently and calm, but this mare will challenge you so be ready for that. She already knows quite some dressage stuff, but you still have quite some to teach her. She can be a bit of a fighter but has great moves. She's also a great jumper; very powerful, but oh, she refuses. You really need to ride her well towards a fence or she'll just do what she wants. That's about it I think.. I'm very curious to see what you get out of her, Faith. And please, don't be stubborn but come to me when you have problems. Well... go see for yourself what she's like!" Virginia smiles and Faith turns the mare away.
Virginia and Sean watch as Faith is trying Cyrene out. The weather is only getting worse. "I'm not sure about this." Sean says after a while. "Why not?" Virginia's voice sounds a bit defensive; after all it's her sister here. "Oh come on. You know why. She's always been guided very closely, on easy horses. Now you give her a challenging horse and suddenly go all free at the same time. This just can't go well. That damn horse has potential and is young, still learning. Faith could mess her up totally. I bet if she wasn't your sister, you wouldn't have done this." Virginia didn't answer. "Faith, give her a break! You're asking too much in a row - keep it different and changing!" Sean yells, to reach the girl who's at the other side of the arena. The mare starts bucking, after which Faith brings her back to a walk. "You see?" Sean continues to Virginia. "She's now already getting too excited about all the new buttons on this horse, already making mistakes, already overasking her, already training her poorly."
"Give her a chance! Jeez, Sean. Can't she make that one little mistake? Ofcourse she's excited, she just got a new horse 30 minutes earlier which is totally different than her other horses. She just got a chance to prove herself. I'm sure she'll be riding her better tomorrow, when the emotions have settled down a bit." Sean just stares at the horse and rider pair. "Fine, think what you want. Just don't tell me later I didn't warn you, when that mare is messed up and goes through life as some frustrated recreation horse." Sean turns around and leaves the arena to go home. Faith comes up to Virginia, not knowing about Sean's opinion. "Thank you so much, Virginia! She's awesome! You're right, she's challenging, but I think I can handle it. This is.. seriously so awesome. I love her already!" With a big grin she turns Cyrene around again and continues riding, leaving Virginia staring into the distance with a little smile. She realizes Sean is just saying out loud what Virginia fears. Her eyes focus on the riding pair again. Faith isn't doing bad when they perform a flying change. It all still can turn out just fine... right?
