"Daaaaaaaddyyyyy! Story time! Story time!"
Reddish eyes turned down to the floor to see two tiny children, a boy and a girl, at the man's feet with pleading expressions on their little faces.
"Please tell us a story Daddy!" the little boy pleaded.
The father chuckled. "How can I say no?" Scooping the two children up, he carried them into the living room and sat on the plush sofa. "What story do you want to hear tonight?"
"Oooh! Oooh! The hero and the villain!"
"Yeah, yeah! That one! That one!"
Laughing again, the father held up his hands in a gesture of surrender. "Ok, ok. The hero and the villain it is."
The two children sat on the end of the sofa, eyes wide with anticipation as their father began his story.

Once upon a time, a young man lived in a world beyond reality. He was at the top, well admired by others, and he was content.
Then one day, a new face entered his world. She intrigued him the moment they locked eyes. He wanted to know more. So he approached her.
As the days went by, they grew closer. He grew more and more intrigued with her. Her warmth, her kindness, her bravery; all of it drew him to her like a moth to a flame. She was attracted to his air of mystery, his cool attitude, and his secret shyness. But he was not the only one who was impressed by her. She was beginning to make a name for herself, drawing more people to her. She was becoming a heroine.
As her circle of friends grew, the young man grew jealous and bitter. He saw her new friends as obstacles, and feared that he would become just another face in her circle of friends. He didn't want that. He wanted to be special to her; wanted her to see him as the only one she needed. That's when he decided.
If she was the hero, then he would become the villain.
He began to plan. He would make her friends abandon her, so he would be the only one she could turn to. Then she would be his.
He tried to act like everything was normal so she wouldn't be suspicious. What he didn't know was that she knew what was in his head, and what was in his heart. And she confronted him.
They stared each other down. She was looking him straight in the eye, waiting for him to do something or say something. Finally he spoke.
"Are you mad?"
He wasn't surprised when she shook her head. "Of course you're not. That's the kind of person you are."
What did surprise him was when she closed the distance between them, standing only a few inches away. Her eyes were practically begging him to let her help him.
"It's not too late," she said, holding out a hand. "You can still start over. And I'll help you."
He hesitated, then slowly reached out and took her hand, letting her pull him closer. When he asked her why, she answered him with a kiss.
In the end, the hero did defeat the villain, and the villain couldn't have been happier.

"β¦The end," the father finished his story. Seeing his two children asleep on the couch, he picked them up and carried them to their room. He tucked them into bed and gave them both a kiss on the forehead before walking down the hallway to his own room. Opening the door, he saw his lovely wife lying in bed reading a book. Hearing the sound of the door, she looked up and fixed him with a serene look in her (e/c) eyes and a gentle smile on her face.
"So?" she asked, tucking a strand of (h/c) hair behind her ear as he sat on the bed. "What story did you tell them tonight?"
Itsuki smiled, leaning over and planting a gentle kiss on her temple.
"Ours."
