An AU where Astrid was the village klutz who trained the dragons (and still packs a punch when she wants) and Hiccup was the skinny but strong (and still secretly dorky) heir to the tribe. I've got a series of this role-reversal AU on fanfiction.net (the first movie is complete and the series is in the works) and I've seen a lot of other fanfics that follow this particular AU but not a lot of fanart on it, so I figured I'd give it a go.In this, Astrid is the free-spirited and tenacious 20 year old bride-to-be of Hiccup (they've been betrothed since Fearless Finn's Flightmare incident) who loves nothing more than to explore the world outside Berk with Toothless. A keen inventor, Astrid's slim physique hides a hidden strength which reveals itself when something riles her to the point of anger and she's been known to give even Hiccup, the toughest fighter on Berk, a broken nose from time to time.
References include pictures of the HTTYD 2 character designs, the Strike Class logo and the Book of Dragons logo (look closely and it's on her shoulder strap, just by her plait). I used an image of the title and edited it using Procreate on the iPad.
The How to Train Your Dragon franchise is owned by Dreamworks and Cressida Cowell.

God, I wish you started Astrid's Riders of Berk soon, so many glorious episodes that fit this Astrid so perfectly! Still can't believe I didn't find your DA page sooner.

I've been meaning to update that one for so long! It's just been on hiatus indefinitely for ages because so many other projects have been happening. There are a lot of episodes I want to do for this AU, but I just keep failing to get round to writing them.

This is a cool picture, I like the color scheme and the whole idea behind it. I'm going to go try and find this fanfic you speak of and read....I'm always a real sucker for AU stories or "what-f?" kinds of scenarios. Very well done piece of fanart

And glad to hear that, I can understand why they wouldn't regularly show other dragons besides Stoick and the kids since a TV show probably won't have nearly as big of a budget as a movie, but it never made sense that it'd ignore all of the others and how pretty much everyone on Berk had at least one dragon in their family now in the dialogue at least :/ That's the only thing I haven't liked about the TV show and the only thing I would change about it, glad to hear you're going to take that into account and try to improve on that aspect
