Description Rose Thorn Stables always had an open space for anyone in need, horse, human, or otherwise, and it had been so since the very beginning. For quite some time adding a Parisian Cabaret Horse to the stables had been considered, though for some reason one had never been required, and when word got to Cat Rosenburg that a closed cabaret had left behind three of these horses locked inside with little hope of survival until they had been rescued, she had inquired about rehabilitating one of the three. When the horses were ready for travel, Cat went and fell in love with the blind stallion. Despite everything, he stood tall, head high, ears pricked, and standing between the mares and the people, ready to protect them should there be any need. With just the one look it was easy to see the overwhelming spirit this horse had within him. With the right care and attention, it wasn't at all hard to imagine all the possibilities for his future- he was sure to be a magnificent horse once the wounds, physical and mental, had a chance to heal.

With all necessary arrangements made, the stallion was transferred to Rose Thorn. For the first few days he was given time to adjust to the new location, spending his time in a stall that had a roomy outdoor turnout so he could nap in the sun and graze. Di, the resident Shetland, came poking around a few times, providing the new arrival with company and slight annoyance. After those few days passed, the people who brought him his meals starting to linger, talking to him softly, letting him get used to their presence. Then, during the day, someone, usually Cat, Cassidy, Flight, or Gary, would sit under the tree a few yards from the outdoor turnout's fence and read, just spending time in the area. Then a picnic blanket was set out even closer, and as the stallion became more adjusted to the people being around him, they kept moving closer until he was fine with someone even sitting on the fence, though he didn't come to great them and often kept his distance, grazing in the far corner.

With such improvement, the decision was made to move him in a small paddock with another horse for company. That led to the question- Who would be put in the paddock with him? One of the more level headed mares or geldings was needed, and though that was a short list,  no one wanted to make a mistake with this decision. There was Evelyn, the palomino Paso Fino, whose calm demeanor made her a good choice, or perhaps her daughter who ponied their racehorses? Then there was Wrath, a rescued Shire mare who was also blind, who might make a good choice, but when it was brought up how spooky she was, they decided to cross her off the list. Then Astraea was brought into the conversation. Not much was known about the young and pregnant Hallucinogen mare yet. Only a week before Cat brought the stallion home they had gotten a call about a glowing mare that had been purchased by a killbuyer. Khayman, Cat's brother, had gone and purchased her from the killbuyer, and brought her back. From her behavior, it was thought that she had grown up around people but had somehow wound up out in the wilds, then been rounded up and passed around until she had gone to the auction.  She had issues and was somewhat skittish, but she seemed as though she wanted to trust those around her, though at any slightly loud noise she would startle and rush away from anyone close to her. They had tried putting her in a pasture with other Hallucinogens, thinking she might be happy being in a herd with others of her breed, but she refused to get close to any of the other horses. They had hoped she would warm up to the small herd, but being around the others had her obviously stressed, so she was moved to her own paddock. She wasn't quite who they were looking for personality  but after discussing the idea it became clear that it just might work. The stallion, who had been nicknamed Geste, was a protecter, and Astraea was scared and alone. Perhaps the two could do for each other what others were unable to do for them.

It was late afternoon, nearly sundown, when Gary went to get Geste. Singing a lullaby the whole time, he entered the stall, and slowly approached the stallion. As he neared, Geste backed away a few steps, ears pinned. Gary stopped moving, though he continued the singing, and only began moving again when he could see Geste start to relax. When Gary was almost to him, Geste pinned his ears again, though he stayed where he was. When he was by the horse's head, he stopped singing the lullaby and started to talk to the stallion.

"It's alright, everything's going to be OK. I'm just going to put this halter on you, then we can move you to a bigger area where you can hopefully meet a new friend. You'll get to stretch your legs some, won't that be nice?" As Gary said all of that, he slipped the halter on Geste, who snorted and started tossing his head until Gary backed away and gave him some space. After he had backed away a few feet, Geste calmed. Gary gave him a moment before repeating the approach and clipping on the lead.

The journey from the stables to the paddock wasn't an easy one, with Geste obviously not wanting to follow the man, though his lullabies did seem to keep him somewhat calm. Both parties were relieved when the paddock was reached and the halter quickly slipped from the stallion's head. Geste walked around for a few minutes, seeming to test the space, before moving at a trot, and then an easy canter, around the field, oblivious to the mare napping who had been napping in a corner until she had been awoken by the pounding hoofbeats. When Astraea whinnied at Geste, the stallion stopped in his tracks and sniffed in her direction, then she walked up to him and they inspected each other. After a minute they separated, seemingly satisfied, and Astraea started grazing while Geste decided it was high time to give the paddock a through inspection and make sure he hadn't missed anything else major.

Time passed, and Geste began to put on weight, the wounds on his neck had healed nicely, though there would always be lasting, obvious scars, and his coat had a healthier sheen to it. He had become very attached to Astraea, and the two were often seen grazing side by side, taking turns napping, or grooming each other. The mare had become much more confident thanks to his attentions, and often allowed people near her to care for her or giver her attention. Though Geste didn't like the presence of the people in his pasture, he relaxed when he realized that Astraea was fine with the company, and sometimes even got curious and came up to the people who were checking on her to sniff at them or occasionally nudge them with his nose. It would be a long road still, but together the horses were healing from their past wounds, and in time they would be just fine.
