Part of another series of the assignment im doing at school. how far would you go to change the way you looked?I cant even look at the cream anymore. It really does make me feel sick.

After reading through some of the previous comments on here, and your replies, I've been really inspired to do my own work on bulimia. I have suffered from eating disorders myself, and this definately hit home.

I thought this was about acid on the thumbnail... IT DOES LOOK LIKE ACID eating away the skin, when its small!! Could be stomach acid. *gag*

and you did a really good job on the imagery, but i think that you might have missed how truely dark and destructive it is with these pics. there is so much self hate involved with this disease. it might have made more of an impact to show some of the other parts of the disorder besides this side of it. im not trying to say you didnt do a good job, in face i thinkyou did great, its just that i think that you could have done ever better.

i've had various forms of bulimia myself, but never through vomitting. mainly laxative abuse and excessive exercise. i wasn't trying to show bulimia, i was more aiming for how the media twists it into something glamourized... that's why i used the sprinkles. i wanted to shock people and make their stomachs turn at the same time to inforce the "darker side".. and thanks

well, im glad you explained that i bit more. i was looking at the series as having been done by someone without much of a connection to the disorder, but the way you've described it as visual commentary on glamourized distortions portrayed in certain media. and judging by some of the comments made by others on this piece you certainly achieved your intent of showing the darker side by literally making their stomachs turn.
im really glad that you are ok with talking about this with me. it means a lot. i know how personal this is. i appreciate it.

yeah, you should google it. shes an author. and im glad you feel the same way. i think that simply talking about these kinds of issues in comfortable scenarios can provide some of the more valuable insight into the various problems found for each individual. like the fact that you are a non-purging bulimic. the first girl i knew intimately with an eating disorder was very similar, but she didnt use laxitives, as least to my knowledge. just the over exercise. she grew up in a family of triathletes so it was pretty easy to go overboard for her. although, it was anorexic behaviour that got her into the hospital for the first time. the mentality of the bulimic, the extreme emotional obsession to food, sex,sleep, that was all there, part for the purging.
did you ever seek treatment for your bulimia?

no, i still haven't. i'm not all too keen using the words to describe me, cos i haven't been diagnosed. but i sort of know, if you get me. i find i cope in my own little ways, taking pictures helps alot. i write alot, on the internet somewhere. it keeps me sane
i hope your friend is ok. the effects can be so devastating and truly heartbreaking

did you lose weight with your bulimic behaviours? how long did they go on for? how often and to what degree did you engage in binge behaviour?

yeah its fine
no i didn't lose weight with it, i maintained my weight instead of gaining with binges. with the exercise, i toned up alot too. i've had disordered eating patterns for going on 4 years now. i binged almost every day, until they weren't binges at all.

my assignment was 'how far would you go to change the way you look'
i worked on the media's manipulation of 'beauty' (ie the girls in magazines we apsire to be) and how it has been edited and played with so much that it is no longer attainable.
I was looking at how far people would go to try and achieve this (failing) and the methods this infulence has. ie, bulimia and anorexia, plastic surgery, makeup etc.
I also did a piece on feeling trapped by the obsession which is another 2 deviations
