From an outsider's perspective, one might assume that Kathlynn is one of those demeaning prep girls who care only about outer appearances while getting the job done through the usage of other people. However, this is just merely a nasty stereotype used to erase the true and deeper characterization of this pink psychic cat girl. From afar, the shiny espurr girl looks to be a rather "cool" cat who probably lived a rather laid-backed and privileged lifestyle, living life in without doubt and as care-free as possible. Upon surface-leveled interaction however, she greets you with a rather mature tone, both in vocabulary as well as her decisions, which adds up to her mystic psyche. As an intelligent and perceptive young lady, Kathlynn also keeps a close eye on others, taking in as much information to help her along the way. Probing deeper, you note that as lenient as she may be in terms of forgiveness, she still stubbornly stands firmly in terms of her position and her ground, unperturbed by any dangerous threat which comes her way and stoic to all the pain and trivial she must face.
Unfortunately for her, Kathlynn comes quite detached to her own emotions, giving her a sense of indifference or half-hearted sympathy when it comes to other people's emotions. This makes it especially difficult for others to read her as her disposition can fluctuate between deadpan humor to a rather boyish-flair. Perhaps she might be too forthright when it comes to answering your questions, calling you off based on her opinions and mindset as she stares with your through those creepy, dead-like eyes. Othertimes she might go on a rather rebellious rampage, causing unwanted messes to clear up her thoughtless head of hers, oftentimes earning herself garnered attention towards her and her ... unpredictable behavior.
To think that a capricious and emotionally-detached cat could cause a bit of chaos within this little fancy chateau called Chai chateau. Well, let's try and not test that theory out.
... if you dare.
Time Era: late 80's- early 90's
Family: {"Father"} Flint Hartman
{"Step-Father"/ Pediatrician} Dr. Trevor Reed
{Mother} ???? Gates
{Homekeeper} ???
{Aunt} ???? Reed
{Nana} ??? Reed.
History: For as long as Kathlynn knew, she couldn't remember exactly when she lived a quiet, domestic lifestyle within a traditional "nuclear" family. But there was one thing she knew which stuck out to her like an annoying thorn which cannot be plucked out: and it was that her life has always been driven by choices, passes, and even more unanswered questions.
The moment she was born, she was placed under the spotlight by her mother, who spoke through the microphone airing her message to the people of Unova:
"Is little darling Kathlynn here the BIOLOGICAL DAUGHTER of the rising actor of Pokestar: Flint Hartman?"
The topic itself was a hit amongst media itself as audiences consumed such content like bread and butter. To think Kathlynn was brought into the world through the more unorthodox means: derived from a kiss-and-tell with what use to be a college drop-out and a registered nurse, raised alone by the hard-working single mother, and living within a shabby city known as Virbank. Many people sided with the mother and daughter, calling both of them “brave”, “strong”, “icons”; and loyal fans side with the “father”, calling him a man of respect, and that the mother was making outrageous claims just to grab attention to the actor’s new-found fame.
It was a debate between two different sides, with baby Kathlynn stuck in the middle. Talk shows and magazines provide paparazzi with an abundance of photos, press conferences provided journalists with the latest scoops, and letters provided either support or death threats to either baby Kathlynn or her actor “father”.
Death threats, to an infant? What a cruel yet ignorant world Kathlynn lived in.
And yet she didn’t know about it until the moment she entered the 4th grade.
As soon as the sidings peaked, the father decided to rise up and give his “daughter” a little visit. The father’s name was Flint Hartman, and he was a rising star actor dedicated to his role as both action and horror films. There was a planned event which happened on a fateful April. Flint rolled up to condo which Kathlynn and her mother lived, paparazzi and bodyguards swarmed around the three figures as the actor approaches the mother and the child.
Their eyes met, baby Kathlynn and Flint’s. They stood in silence together, but for some unknown spatial reasoning, there was a thought which connected the two together.
Destiny.
They were destined to be together regardless of authentications.
A genetic test was put at play, and both Kathlynn and Flint’s DNA were sent out for testing. Anticipated fans and viewers waited for the results; Flint and Kathlynn’s mother too. Kathlynn was a question to be asked, and her DNA was the answer to this trivial conflict. Days, Weeks, Months.
But the results never came back.
The viewers which stayed hooked with this juicy scoop died down as well, focusing their attention on other hot things such as newly-release albums and other rising celebrities. What makes it even more strange is the fact little Miss Kathlynn was stuck in a situation which left her more vulnerable than originally intended. Before she ever turned 2, something happened to her mother. Was it a death? A disappearance? The child wouldn’t know, she was still an infant. In this case, even after all the troubles she has gone through, and the controversies her existence has spread in the celebrity world….
...Flint still accepted her into his life as one of his own.
The father-daughter duo would drive away from the smoggy city of Virbank and into the bustling city of entertainment: Nimbasa, Flint’s hometown. From here, little baby Kathlynn would live in her father’s penthouse suite alongside the company of his housekeeper and pokémon companions. As the child grew, she forgot about the existence of her own mother, simply remembering the current which is her, her talented father, and the others which helped her grow. All seems fitting for the life of a princess, but not all fairy tales have a happy conclusion.
As much as Kathlynn grew, the more she finds herself isolated with her surroundings and peers. Communication within her household was less than average, as work prioritized everybody’s schedule. Play dates were not easy to form knowing everyone dots on the fame of the father and not for the well-being of the daughter, and surely petting Kathlynn hang out with only her father’s pokémon companions is not enough to grow her within her own boundaries. This was a problem which affected the child’s development … until she turned five.
Her dad brought someone home. Another man by the name of Dr. Trevor Reed. It was her pediatrician, and although she’s at the age where she still fears doctors, she didn’t see him like that at all. Dr. Reed was a kind yet nervous man who wears his heart on his sleeve, and treats Kathlynn as if she was family. Strange to have her doctor live with them, the child noticed the littlest indications shared between her father and the other man. The casual detachment from when they are out in public to the closeness when they were at home… what was this? Little Kathlynn would tilt her head in wonder.
The answer was LOVE.
A secretive love which was kept a secret in the eyes of the general public.
“My Princess, please do not tell anyone about this. This is our little secret.” Flint would whisper to his daughter with his pinkie finger stuck out. “You will carry it out until you feel like it’s ready to tell the world. Promise?”
The child would stick out her tiny pinkie and press it against her father’s.
“I promise.”
One summer’s night, the last week before Kathlynn starts middle school, Kathlynn saw her father sitting alone in the kitchen. Big bright eyes stared at her father, but his voice told her otherwise.
He told her to head to bed; his back facing towards her. She was compliant, obedient, and did what she was told … heading to bed at exactly eight P.M. sharp, and let herself drift off into a deep, dreamless sleep.
The next morning, her father was nowhere to be seen. The media caught act of this latest scoop, hoping to catch the latest trend and mystery behind the missing actor Flint Hartman. This was of similar fate which had happened to her dearest, forgotten mother: a name which she cannot recall.
IT FELT LIKE SUCH A SURREALISTIC DREAM.
She saw phases of the adults pushing paparazzi away from their homes. She saw the housekeeper threatening to call the police on them. She saw Dr. Reed ensuring that everything is alright and that Flint will reappear sooner or later. Her father’s pokémon blockaded the people from entering their quiet home in the city. A MESS.
As time passed over, the doors were locked and closed. The chattering has died down. MUFFLED NOISE AND SILENCE. The grown ups slumped in the parlour, hands over their faces. They sobbed. Daddy’s pokémon started to weep alongside. Kathlynn sat next to her family, sandwiching herself between the pokémon and the adults. She was surrounded by sobbing, disparity, grief, emotions of all sorts.
She didn’t cry. Rather, stared into deep space.
After the disappearance of the Pokéstar actor Flint Hartman, the misfit family of a daughter a doctor and a homekeeper was left in a vulnerable state. To think Kathlynn may turn out to be an orphan? Well, Dr. Reed is not willing to let that happen. He rolled up his sleeves and dialed a number to make a quick call from the only reliable source he could reach: FAMILY.
After a week, comes in a couple new faces: one aged, one young. Trevor’s mother and sister came in out of their request of their one-and-only son, who begged the two to keep watch of his missing lover’s little girl while he prepares to work twice the effort to keep this irregular household together. Funny to say at least, after being raised all her life by men, for the first time … she’s under the watchful guidance of two head-strong and proud female figures. The Reed family embraced their godchild with a loving embrace.
From all the trauma she’s face, the missing people she has to witness, the family members which departed from her life.
They were going to teach her on how to become a mature and independent lady, in hopes of making existence within this cruel and fickle world easier.
A couple years over a decade has already passed, and it looks as if Kathlynn is living her best life yet. The child, now a grown woman, was near towards her years of highschool as Leader of the Cheer squad, Homecoming queen, a Magna Cum Laude alumni, even Miss Nimbasa within her hometown. All of these achievements were accomplished to her with the help of her guardians, who pampered her and daughter her how to utilize her beauty and brains to becoming the best out of the best.
But to think that she was thankful for these easy accomplishments handed over to her like a cake walk? Well, perhaps it left Miss Kathlynn with a temporal satisfaction which left a lingering emptiness inside of her.
Was she grateful for utilizing her strengths at its fullest? Yes. Did she live a childhood which did not take any opportunity for granted? Absolutely.
Is this the life she wanted to live within her accord and not within the social stigma which plagued her timeline to this day?
…
She will let you decide on that.
To think that the most fortunate beauty on the planet isn’t even satisfied with what is handed to her on a silver platter. Would you call her ungrateful for that? Perhaps. She wouldn’t feel remorse or guilt over it.
IT’S NOT LIKE SHE KNEW WHAT IT FELT LIKE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
To think she would take a turn from that pure, and pretty princess facade, well. Who would even blame her. Kathlynn keep that innocent and pristine state during the daylight.
And into a rather rebellious wild child during the moonlight. It was not so difficult to spot the pink-cladded teenager roaming the downtown area after bedtime, holding a bat in one hand, a bottle in another. Her eyes gleamed with mischief as she and her “friend” go out to cause a little bit of anarchy on the streets.
“Why would she do such a thing?” You may ask, seeing Kathlynn covered head to toe in grime and blood which may not be her own. “Why did you turn out like that? The one and only daughter of a celebrity, and the face of the school itself?”
She may turn her head around with an empty smile. “... To feel ALIVE of course.”
It was May, a month where itching near graduation and the start of summer vacation. Kathlynn, a graduating senior, steps onto the stage to grab her diploma. Her eyes hollow, her face pristine.
TO THINK SHE’S AT HER WITS END. Well, she couldn’t say much about her situation as the empty rampous sounds of clapping echoed in her ears. To think she lived her life in satisfaction, and have the resources to become the full fledged adult as soon as she chooses the college invitations handed to her.
She has to do stuff on her own. The jump from choices to decisions frightened her to the bone.
There was so much things which she wanted to do when she’s still young. To fish, to get her hands dirty, to see Kalos with her own two eyes, to see her whole family again.
It was a selfish request wish which was impossible to fulfill. A questionable wish if one is being rather honest to themselves.
“Why does she want to do all of these niche things while she’s young when she could do them as she continued on growing?”
“Because she knows that will not return back to Nimbasa ever so soon as these empty feelings continue to plague her memories within this bustling city of entertainment.”
Kathlynn exited the stage and stormed over to her car, her cape and gown tossed aside in a messy disarray into trash bin near the exit doors. She revved up her car’s engine, set the gear into drive, and drove off away from the school. Away from the city. Towards the countryside as the skies turns from purple to gold.
She wanted to clear her mind. The thought about having to leave this city and its memories hurts her so. She loved her family, her friends, joyous occasions and tragedies which happened all inside bright and buoyant Nimbasa.
She couldn’t feel the same emotions which these memories convey. It stuck onto her soul like a nasty gap which needed to be filled.
The skies got darker, a fog comes up from a distance, and silhouettes of conifers marked around the path which surrounds the streets. She has reached an unfamiliar territory which she herself does not realize, but her hands still glued itself to the wheel.
POP.
There goes her tire.
Kathlynn hopped out of her convertible, staring blankly at the flat tire. She checked her back to see if she has a spare. She does not. JUST HER LUCK.
Along front an eyes view, she spots something from a distance, a chateau glimmering behind forests and iron gates. How … odd this scenario is. She hiked over to the sight of shelter.
Perhaps she could find a phone of something to help tow her car back home.
...Perhaps not, knowing that she will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
