Description
I was originally inspired by Grant Morrison's "Arkham Asylum" graphic novel and had based Batman's costume on the design, but I ended up chosing a different route halfway through the pic. I attempted to recreate the picture in my own design, so it's somewhere in between.

Something to note is the shape of Batman's cowl. Although Batman's lower face is visible and shows him frowning, the cowl itself is actually shaped like an enormous laughing smile, just like the Joker. This is alluding to themes throughout the graphic novel and other Batman stories, where Batman is challenged with the idea that, more often than not, he is responsible for creating his own villains and should be held responsible for their madness. In each of these stories, Batman overcomes his inner demons and justifies himself.
