Description
As I continue my path to completing my book "Horizon Eras: Reemergence", I've begun going over my original maps. This is the first continent of the story, and I've three more maps to do.
Having a reference book certainly makes a difference, and it made me excited to show off the changes. Since the book template will be 9"X6", I had to remove some labels, and shortened many of those that remain, lest the map becomes cluttered with them.
....
While I'm at it, I'll tell you about the marked locations in my book.
The Pilgrimage Sites
These locations are marked by black circles with white outlines. These designated locations are considered to be of historic significance, and are thus destinations for the Historic Pilgrimage, which serves as Horizon's Rite of Passage to Adulthood.
Port Dawn: As the site where the first Dark Overlord stronghold was destroyed, Port Dawn is a living symbol that the Dark Overlords can be defeated. The Granite Lighthouse to its north also shares this eminence. Cove Shrine, the meeting place for those who seek to bond with an Atua is located just past the shoals.
Abundance Village: The former inhabitants of what is known as Death Valley fled from Zombie Lord and crossed the ocean on an emergency vessel they had built. Here is where they landed and formed a new village. The people were almost wiped out once again as dysentery spread among the people. Channeling the purifying power of Solaria, Auberon cleansed the land and people at once of the poisons, and in the years following, the village’s fields produced the largest vegetables ever seen.
Emerald Sanctuary: The domain of the elves is protected by a radiant emerald barrier. The trees are the most vibrant and verdant in the entire world; they even glow during the nighttime.
Clarity Town: Edging out the Granite Lighthouse is Clarity Town, the birthplace of Auberon, the Savior of Horizon. Since returning from his battles, Auberon has served a role in designing the settlement’s layout. Thanks to Auberon’s careful prudence and wise planning, Clarity Town is the most prosperous settlement in all of the three continents.
Other Settlements, which are marked by a white circle in a black outline.
Verdant Grove
The birthplace of the two lead characters, Leo the Guardian of Verdant Grove, and Harmony the physician. Their home is positioned in a wet climate, and their drinking water comes from the snow-fed spring. This remote location has very few predators, and the inhabitants have no regular source of meat in their diet. The signature crop of Verdant Grove is a variant of olives.
Cedarwood Village
As the name suggests, it's a village that was founded within a forest of cedar trees.
Rose Village
The birthplace of two more vital characters, the natural born but directionless prodigy Boom, and the spirited up and coming apothecary Chime. Yet, these two youths have no love for their birthplace, as their respective families are both abusive. In general, Rose Village is most widely know for their perfume shop.
Alderwood Village
Founded by a population that split off from Clarity Village, as a means of distancing themselves from the suffering they knew during the Era of Scepter. Thanks to Auberon's care in trying to reverse engineer the enemy technology left in the old Clarity Stronghold, Alderwood's inhabitants enjoy easy access to clean drinking water.
Colt Village
A settlement consisting of a former group of foragers, who used the marshland as cover to protect themselves from the Dark Overlords. They raise goblinized animals for an easy and prolific source of meat.
Port Vista
A port settlement that was founded less than 20 years ago.
Cove Shrine
The designated shrine where the living may attempt to bond with an Atua. The Atua used to be vengeful spirits, but ever since Solaria and Auberon brought their souls peace with the end of the Era of Scepter, the Atua are now more like guardian spirits.
Whale Ridge
Functionally, Horizon equivalent to Yellowstone. It's also the domain of the Fire Elemental.
Copper Village
During the Era of Scepter, the slave population here lived in fear of Servant Basilisk. Now the people live their lives in peace and safety. Only the most dedicated pilgrims ever go so far out of the way on their Rite of Passage to Adulthood, and the people of Copper Village have a special affection for them that do.
Dark Shrine
Located at the farthest reaches of the Bone Ridge, this woeful location is a Dead Zone where the use of Blood Arts has killed the processes of nature. It's always bitterly cold here, the weather patterns completely go around this vicinity, and the night sky is mournfully bleak.
Granite Lighthouse
A former stronghold of the Dark Overlords, which was built off the shore, and is accessed by a drawbridge. Despite the name, the Granite Lighthouse is in fact made of an alloy metal called Royal Blood Obsidian, which was the favorite all-purpose material of the Dark Overlords. The impetuous man who named the lighthouse isn't even remembered in the Epic of Auberon, which is Horizon's core history book.
Hearth Mountain/Lyxan's
The dwelling of the hermit blacksmith Lyxan is built halfway into Hearth Mountain, which is one of the few locations where the valuable metal Hearthstone can be found. Lyxan once forged many swords to support Auberon's and Solaria's mission to save the world. Lyxan's masterpiece, the Bear Sword, is the weapon that Auberon lived by during his many battles to save the world.
Desolate Volcano
Home to the trial site that Solaria created, which served its purpose to judge the one whom Solaria would work her vengeance through against the Dark Overlords. Despite how the purpose has been fulfilled, the trial site remains fully operational on its own. The phenomenon becomes known as the Trial of the Firebird, and it serves as Leo's entry to bonding with Phoenix Coronis.
Precipice Heights
The former lair of Servant Cyclops is located in the heart of the mountains that overlook Verdant Grove on its east. A population of trolls dwell up here. For the time being, they are friendly to humans, as the monsters recall how Leo's father Lionel fight to save them from the stone minions of Cyclops. Since trolls are mere monsters, their population will inevitably forget about their hero Lionel, and lose their natural good affinity towards humankind.
