Description

EDIT 2: Added some versatility. Too complicated, too powerful?

EDIT: upped mana cost and restricted its effect to nonland permanents

Rough draft. I wanted to make a decent card using the overload mechanic. Yes, I know this could be abused absurdly. If there are any broken combos that come to mind, let me know. It might need to be non-land permanents to be balanced.

A very heartfelt thank you to for making the awesome custom set symbol.

Because my custom cards are meant to showcase and promote the awesome artwork, none of the artwork belongs to me. I've listed the artist's name next to the paintbrush at the bottom of the card to give the artist due credit.

I highly recommend checking out their gallery.

The artist has granted me permission to use this artwork for this card.

This is a custom card created with Magic Set Editor, which can be downloaded for free here: magicseteditor.sourceforge.net…

Thanks to Wizards of the Coast for creating the game, Magic the Gathering. Magic The Gathering is owned by Wizards of the Coast. www.wizards.com/Magic/Summoner… Please do not print or attempt to sell this card.

===============================================================================

My approach to card making is art oriented more than anything else because that's what first drew me to the game.  When designing a card, my objective is to balance flavor and utility in such a way that it fits into the game seamlessly and would be fun to actually play with.

===============================================================================

I’m a perfectionist at heart, so I gladly welcome any suggestions you have. All of these cards are WIPs (works in progress). But please try to keep your feedback constructive and don’t argue with me TOO much because I’ll stick to my guns on some points. Also keep in mind this is not a cohesive set. It’s a series of cards doing homage to the artists I admire. Therefore many of them are rares and mythics, and not 50 cent ones either.

Edited card comment:

A targeting spell yes, board-wide blasts, no. They would return before the board wipe resolves on the stack.

Aside from balancing, this type of effect is primarily White/Blue as well. If you're putting red into the mix and taking out the white, the flickering affect might have a randomness factor injected in.

Such as: Exile target non-land permanent you don't control. Return it to the battlefield under your control at the beginning of the next end step. If a permanent would enter the battlefield under your control this turn, flip a coin. If you lose the flip, target opponent gains control of that permanent.

Overload: 3UURR

So this way A) you have the opportunity to steal only your opponents permanents and then B) it's not a guarantee you'll keep it, but you can give it to another player in a multi-player/ EDH game.

Out of control fun = Izzet.

Ah, your right about the non targeted removal. And that's a good suggestion

Very awesome! The overload would probably be 4UURR and the regular cost would at least be 2UR. I feel like it would also only return the permanents during the end step as to ignore things like Akroma's Vengance. Flickering your entire side of the board is bananas for Izzet, it's equivalent to a Turnabout mixed with a Sudden Disappearance AT INSTANT SPEED. Crazy sauce!

Also, this still allows your stuff to dodge removal. Because whenever a permanent leaves the battlefield and enters the battlefield again, it is a new permanent. Anything targeting it will see that it is not the same permanent that it was before it left the battlefield. See Cloudshift.

Yup comparing this to sudden disappearance I can see it's undercosted. Especially since it hits lands and your stuff comes back immediately. I'll have to do some rebalancing

Well, you could have all your land exiled and then they return untapped, right? So everything you do up until you play this card was free, yes?

well sort of. Say you have 6 lands. You tap them all and use five of it to overload Aether Shift. You've just profited 1 mana. If you have any landfall creatures, welll..... XD

Doesn't seem too good at first, but... well, it resets a permanent. That certainly has its uses.

Well, compare this to Cloudshift gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Car… but it's any permanent. If you have more than 5 lands in play, you will be profiting mana. It'll trigger any enters the battlefield abilities a second time. You can use it to save your board from mass removal.

Picture this if you will: "Exile target permanent you DON'T control, then return that card to the battlefield under your control." I'd let that attack with your whole field through XD

You forgot a comma, but otherwise, nice card!
