Ok, so this didn't actually happen in the book, but it's a beautiful idea (in my opinion, anyway) that has turned up in other fanart and fanfics, and every time I come across it I melt. So, I wanted to do my own version! I still definitely think it counts as a spoiler. So, if you don't wanna be spoilt... stop reading now and close this window, eh?

This is a picture of what Snape would see if he looked in the mirror of Erised, done in pen and ink with a dip pen. It felt very... fitting, like I was scribbling away with a quill. Everything shown in the mirror is done with only vertical lines to keep it looking flat, and everything not in the mirror has contour lines and cross-hatching. I used the film portrayals of Snape and Lily as reference. I was quite worried for a while, because the first thing I sketched was Lily... and with nothing else in the picture to show that she's SUPPOSED to look flat, it just looked like a terrible, terrible, deformed person. And that was bad. I had used "perspective" transform in photoshop on my reference screenshot of Lily, so I KNEW I had it basically right for the angle I wanted the mirror to be at. Once Snape got in there, though, I was satisfied, since he looked 3D enough to me.

There's a little sheen on the left edge, but that's just from the camera flash. I'm going to try to scan the original in parts and piece it together in photoshop for a higher quality image--the picture is actually 18" x 24". I finally drew something on my big paper! Yay!

There are also some blobs of ink, but if you'll notice, they're only on the mirror... the first one was an accident, but then I decided maybe some more spots would make the mirror look old and dirty. So that's my excuse for that. The accidental one was in the worst spot, too, right on Lily's hand, which you can barely see as it is... :sigh: But overall I'm happy with how it turned out, especially since this is DEFINITELY the biggest pen-and-ink endeavor I've ever attempted... and maybe only the second or third one ever.
