A question about your photoshop/ink technique: how do you get the underlying ink textures, like in the pinker parts on his face which are under the key image lines? Are those drawn and scanned in separately?

Yup, I use translucent marker paper to draw/paint stuff on ink in layers above the original drawing...then I just scan them and put them in the illustration and change the colors.
