Snowballs and fun times! This was I think the highlight of the convention. It was the last day, and this little girl calls out "Jack Frost!" I said hello and we chatted, and then we played ball. .. snowball, anyway. XD Her father was snapping photos the entire time. He told me later she hadn't seen the movie yet, but was sure she'd freak when she did.ALA was by far one of the most fun conventions I've ever attended. For moments like this... this is why I cosplay.

oh! i think i saw you at the convention last year! i go to ALA every year, i'd prefer that over AX since it's smaller and personally, i think the atmosphere is more friendly ^_^ awesome cosplay btw and i love it when children appreciate our cosplays

I think I only went to the ALA the year before this year. I might go again, though. I just got a post card about it. Considering I won't make it to AX, I might actually go. 
And I agree. Smaller cons are generally more social and it's easy to make friends. Big cons are impressive but definitely more tiring. Β Both are lots of fun though.

Oh god, d'you think you could share with me the secret of how you made your staff? I'm cosplaying Jack for NYCC this year and I just can't seem to figure out how to make the staff! Your's looks amazing, as does the rest of your costume!

Thank you! I've been looking around for some nice finished projects and yours is by far the best I've come across, very well done. I honestly would have never thought of something as genius as insulation.
And it's not a problem with the turtorial, half the fun is figuring it out on your own, right?

Be careful with it though. Although the paperclay ads stability, it doesn't really add strength. Mine actually snapped in two during the convention. I was jumping off rocks to get some "flying" pictures, but I didn't land right and the staff took the brunt force... yeah. That's actually the reason you don't see my staff here. It had broken by the time this photo was taken. I will fix it, don't worry. This time though, I'll cover it with plastic or resin or something. D=<

Resin might work pretty well, we use it sometimes when building certain heavy duty flats for the theatre productions and they always come out insanely hard and strong. For any kind of future prop like this too, you may also want to try some plaster casting stips instead or in addition to the paperclay, when dipped in water and rubbed out, they also dry insanely hard and strong and are easy to paint over while giving it that nice grainy texture. Two or three layers of that stuff can turn a newspaper chicken leg into a weapon of vengeance. XD
