He sat watching people pass by him, blocking his view of the small boy who was scrambling around ridiculously like a chicken with its head cut off. He couldn’t help but stifle a laugh as he tripped on his large red scarf, sending the school bag he was hugging to the ground.

“Takaya, I have to order something here, please be near.” His mother stated, walking into the store a few feet away from where the boy had tripped.

Abe hurried to the smaller boy’s side, offering his hand and helping him up. He picked up the abandoned bag and handed it to the blonde haired boy.

He looked at him with questioning eyes, “Are you okay?”

The shorter boy dusted himself off and shyly nodded, not raising his head.

“I-I-I’m fine!” He stuttered. Abe furrowed his brows, He felt like whacking him upside the head for the pathetic like stuttering. He shook off the thought and smiled gently, “That’s good to hear.”

The boy regained the scrambling expression, with his peach skin tinted with pink. His gaze scattered, as if he was like a young puppy looking for the butterfly it had just started to chase.

Abe had noticed the change and placed his hand on the boy’s shoulder. “Did you lose someone?”

He nodded in reply, “I have to meet my cousin… I-I think I lost her a while ago. I-I’m s-s-s-s-sorry.” He bowed, trying to run, but Abe grabbed his wrist and spun him around. He could feel his face heat up, as he grabbed the boy’s free hand, intertwining their fingers.

“What’s your name?” he spoke determinedly.

The blonde’s face turned a darker shade of red as he stuttered, “M-Mi-Mihashi Ren!”

“Ren-Ren! Grandpa’s here, Hurry up!” The female voice from the corner of the street beamed into the crowd, his head perked up.

“I-I have t-to go.” Mihashi stuttered, he leaned up and pressed his soft lips to Abe’s, innocently.

Then he broke their intertwined fingers and wiggled his wrist free from the boy who was in awe.

“Thank you very much!” Mihashi shouted when he turned.

Abe traced his finger over his lips, he couldn’t stop thinking of the warmth that was just there.
