Billy is in college so it seemed like a good fit to make him a college radio host. That being said, he probably does podcasts as well.
I am tired of every hero having dead parents, so making his mother an unfit guardian and thus winding him up in foster care seemed like a fresher origin story. Sure, it's been done before, but it's less used up than the murdered parents origin.

Billy has every reason to be cynical and he was when he was younger, but ironically he gets less jaded as he gets older. Billy never knew his dad, so who is to say.

Saw Billy fit to teach Billy...that seems like a clunk there
Aside from that seems a rather nice intro, it rings true to the Billy Batson I know and his foster ties do hark back to some scenes I remember reading and seeing in the justice league war movie. It is nice to see that this guy is quite sharp even if his maturity is a bit all over the place and oh dear...of all the kids you could have annoyed... oh dear me.
