Time Range: Late Jurassic Kimmeridgian to Tithonian (151 to 147 Million years ago).

Geographic range: It is known from the Tendaguru formation (🇹🇿Tanzania), although it possibly had a wider distribution on the African continent.

Size: 4.2 meters in length and 1500 kg.

Described by Edwin Hennig in 1915, Kentrosaurus is known from multiple fossils, being the most complete Stegosaur from Gondwana. Kentrosaurus was among the smallest Stegosaurids. Additionally, there is debate about where the large shoulder spikes could go. Kentrosaurus was among the smallest Stegosaurids. Additionally, there is debate about whether the long shoulder spikes should go on the hip or not.
Other Stegosaurs from Africa would be Paranthodon from the Kirkwood formation (South Africa), Adratiklit and Thyreosaurus from the El Mers III formation (Morocco). In fact, it is also possible that Thyreosaurus and Adratiklit are synonyms.

Role in When Dinosaurs Roamed Africa: Kentrosaurus are shown mating, feeding their young, and being preyed upon by Veterupristisaurus.
