Inspired by the Radiohead song, No Surprsies .

Mikey's living in the boonies, here. Poor thing. He's stuck with a bunch of idiot man-children with nothing to do but wrangle with his PTSD and angst over the shitty state of the world. Although I'm pretty sure the song is about suicide, it fits surprisingly well for someone with ptsd living in a dystopia. Thank you NalaFontaine for showing me how you color (used some of what you taught here!), and thank you Blackdragon-sama for the suggestions! They helped a lot!

When I started this, I wanted to try something more paintery and serious (to compare to my first finished Mikey ). I spent more time on this one, though, and I think it's a tad cheating to compare them. I decided to give Sai a serious try, and holy balls I'm so happy, you have no idea. I haven't painted like this in years! I predominantly use Photoshop, and I didn't realize how bad PS was for painting. No wonder I had problems! Sai is great I'm in love, I will forever color in sai omg

Personal notes; My original goal was to work on bgs. I've been sketching scenery and bgs to help with PT, and it was high time I did a more serious, finished study of them. I drew this a couple weeks ago, then started coloring about a week ago once I found sai, and omg I didn't anticipate having so much fun coloring and shading this. This ended up being more 'omfg fun colors and light yaypainting' then actually working on bgs, so some of that is a bit wonky (some shadows are missing, aging/damage isn't consistent, the bush could use a bit more work, maybe a bit too dark etc) xD I really don't mind, though! This was stupidly fun, I think it looks nice, and I can't blame myself for going nuts my first time with Sai. Also, I recently decided to start collecting artwork that had elements I really love (the 'Inspiration Study' folder in my favs) and quickly realized there were a few themes. One being I really love pieces with strong atmosphere (scale/depth/mood), and another is that I love pics with lots of lovely dark colors (high contrast). So, I decided to try that out here. It combined at the right time for me, apparently, as I'm pretty happy with it. I can't wait to do more like this; it's a whole new world to explore xD
