In it's day, number 50 was one of the fastest locomotives around. Newer technology has since surpassed it, but for a non streamlined steam locomotive it was an astounding performer for its time. The engine remained National Railway's most iconic locomotive, being the head of one of the "Big Three" express trains known in the union station. However, the story of number 50's famed engineer is a far more complex, and unusual story.
Any fellow railroad men within the county will attest that Cinders Vulpinette was bound to become one of the greats. During her days as a stoker, she was quick to learn the ins and outs of her locomotives, and managed to find unorthodox, but clever ways to manipulate the fire into burning hotter with less fuel. In recognition of her innate talents, she was quickly promoted to engineer, and spent some time running freights and local commuters. She turned out to be cocky, and a risk taker, but she was at least sensible about the risks she took, and was seldom late if it could be helped. Those in charge knew she was just the person they needed for a little problem that popped up. The engineer of their top of the line express, "The Limited" was growing old, and was set to retire within the following year, and he needed a skilled person to take his place. The fireman was considered, but he didn't have any prior experience. Instead, the job was offered to Cindy. Faster than you can say nepotism, she accepted the job and demanded to start her training as soon as possible. After months of learning the ropes under the aging engineer, the job was finally hers, and all the benefits that came with it. She became the de-facto owner of number 50, and she wasn't afraid to flaunt it to her fellow engineers at the station. The locomotive soon became Cindy's most prized possession, and the centerpiece of all that embodied her identity. Cindy holds her reputation a little higher than she should, and she's not afraid to bend the rules just a tad if it means an opportunity to win a race. After all, if you're gonna give the passengers a ride, why not give 'em a show?
