this is fascinating. somehow my initial raction was this should be taken to Illustrator for a finish, but it could also become a great painting. i assume its either beacause of your scanners presettings or the filter youve run over it, but if not, what did you use for the line? it looks really interesting, like some thick material or something.

Thanks, i'm glad you like it! Haha, that thick material is just a pencil line! I just did a straight scan onto the computer.
What I am going to do now is paint the background of a canvas a bright, swirling orange and yellow, etc, that really jumps at you. Then I will use an overhead projecter to project the design onto the canvas and paint the negative space in some dark colors (maybe dark black and blue swirled together). This will leave the actual knotwork to jump out at you. I've never done anything like this before, but it makes sense in my head, so I guess we'll see how it ends up!
