Description New toys new techniques
Merle, a very good friend of mine gave me a bottle of Sennelier masking fluid. Never having worked with this stuff before I tried it on a self-portrait first, so that no innocents might come to harm.
I'm quite pleased with the effects you can pull off with this stuff. Over the next days I'll post my other early experiments with this.

In this first pic the masking fluid has a kind of "woodcutty" effect imho. This.... and I should shave more often

Hey! I know that guy!

Nice work! From a distance, your hat kind of looked like a chef's hat (I blame lack of sleep). Still! Lovely job!

What does masking fluid do exactly?

I'm good at cooking, but no chef And I'm glad I ain't (too much work ).Β  Β
Masking fluid is kind of a liquid rubber that you paint on the paper (I ruined my favourite brush because it dries so fastΒ  Β ).
It is water-repellent and keeps any watercolour or ink away from the paper. So you can do really wild stuff with the watercolour without being afraid to ruin your subject or parts that are already finished.
I'm currently experimenting to see what I can do with it and how it aids the creative process

Oh, yeah, agreed! Being a chef is a lot of work! Unless you're just a chef to your family!Β  Β

Very cool! I'm looking forward to seeing more with the masking fluid! (and sorry about your brush. )
