Description
How do you buy?
Each design is being sold via separate auction in the below corresponding comments, so please respond to the latest bidder so things don't get hectic! Auctions end 48 hours after their first bid and I will accept "holds" if you need a bit of time to collect the money. ^^ If there are no bids within 7 days, the design will be removed and withheld for later use on my equine fantasy RPG, probably as a freebie or game-money adoptable. Please don't pay until requested so we can work out the details. Some designs may be up for negotiation if you would like to privately note me about alternative compensation!
Starting Bid: $5 or 500 points
Minimum Increase: $1 or 100 points
Auto Buy: $30 or 3,000 points [comes with a free headshot sketch commission!]
What all do you get?
A stand-alone image of your adoptable, featuring the horse on a basic background and floor, sized 3,500 pixels wide and 2,000 pixels tall. I can add colors and textures/patterns/designs to the backdrop if you ask beforehand, otherwise they're simply grey, and/or I can make it transparent. I will also provide you with the .PSD file if you ask for it, which can especially aid commissioners in recreating complex designs, so feel free to distribute to them as necessary. I will warn you, however, that my layers are not remotely organized or named... I'm messy. xD
All rights to the design: use however you wish, wherever you wish, so long as you do not claim credit and link back to me whenever appropriate. Furthermore, you can make any and all changes that you desire. You buy this, it's yours. Lastly, if you want me to make any revisions for you, we can discuss a reasonable fee depending on what you want.
A 15% discount on all commissions from me of this design. I promise not to turn you down due to complexity, either ;D
If you auto-buy the adoptable, you will get a free headshot sketch from me, similar to this: Ailurus Sketch
Want more details?
Whether you are having a hard time distinguishing for yourself by sight, want to know more fine specifics, or someone commissioned you for one of these designs, these are some written components to go with the visuals. As with the picture, you can make any changes you want and should consider these my suggestions, inspirations, and tips more than anything (including the names); you are also free to use the writing in your descriptions with credit. If you want further detail, such as a very specific form for every body part or such instead of my flowery prose, I'm happy to oblige!
1. Sparkwind [bought and paid for by Venari-Stock ]
Description: An onyx, sleek frame reflecting the glow of flame-lit wings, Sparkwind is a harsh contrast between pyre and ink. Cracks of fire spread down her shoulder and burst forth infernos of flight, her eyes lacking pupil and iris alike, pure radiation highlighting her sharp cheekbone and the two spikes running down her muzzle. Slick, ebon tresses pool down her hindquarters and crested neck, warmed in the rays of her sparks. When calmed, her embers darken and her wings rescind, leaving a midnight horse bearing dark cracks and demon eyes, but it is rare for her passions to quench.
Stock: Fire stock is missing, I can't find it on dA, my download file is named "chatfeu 0082" but that doesn't pull up anything, either. If anyone knows it, I would be very grateful!
Tips: Fire stock with a black background, which is rampant on dA, is very easy to use for fire pieces! All you have to do is put the layer on "Screen" and it will erase all of the dark bits and leave just your burning flame. If it's still not bright enough, you can duplicate the layer a few times, paint over it with some bright colors on overlay, and/or mess with curves. Glows can be created with a soft brush of red, then orange, then yellow, all getting closer and closer to the fire source, either set to "Normal" with a lower opacity or "Overlay/Soft Light" if you're putting the glow on something other than black.
Colors: Black body: 171717 | White crack: ffffec | White fire: fffffb | Yellow lighting: ffff34 | Orange lighting: f68015 | Red lighting: f71e08 | White eyes: ffffc3 | Red eye glow: 540b04 | Hair: 232323 | Horns: 221f1e | Hooves: 0e0e0e
2. Willowstone [bought and paid for by How-You-Remind-Me ]
Description: Nature itself personified, this guardian of the forest is a solemn, warning presence that protects the same materials it is made from. Fur replaced with cracking stone and soil, coiled in vines, dripping moss, and often accompanied by small creatures of innocent spirits, he brings with him a serene aura but keeps a watchful eye at all times. Great wings of willow boughs sprout from his shoulders, dangling greens sweeping along his back, and the tips of thorned stalks turn white to complement the spear of ivory struck down his muzzle. Above his vivid green eyes shoots bleached antlers, painting a strong silhouette, and his hooves mirror the rich brown of bark.
Stock Images: Weeping willow branch cut-out (willow tree wings) | STOCK PNG heavy vines (vines) | Stone texture (body texture) | (antlers - won't let me make a dang link)
Tips: Using "Transform > Puppet Warp" to make the willow tree wings bend properly with gravity is a great shortcut! If you use the same stock I used, it has some odd outlines in it, but I personally combated that with "Layer Styles > Inner Glow" and color picking a green shade from the willow tree. It isn't the most realistic stock possible, so another idea is to find a willow tree stock with a sky background or otherwise a non-green background and then select all the green in the image, duplicate just the green selection, and erase anything you don't need. You can select just green by going to "Select > Color Range" and choosing "Greens" from the dropdown menu.
Colors: Tan body: 634d36 | Brown hooves: 090403 | Vines: 556607 | Willow trees: 5a6f25 | Eyes: 737638 | White face marking: dddddd | Antlers: 897b6b | Moss: 6a8c0f
3. Thunderstruck [bought and paid for by asperette ]
Description: A personality as sharp as the streaks of lightning decorating her deep purple and blue hide, her personality illuminates the room as her wings brighten the very sky. Fingers of electricity spread down her forelegs, accumulating in her vivid hooves and shedding light on all she steps upon. Her long tail of the same rippling blue and purple is covered by an umbrella of feathers, similar to the fringe riding up her neck until regular hair cascades down her brow. She grows dark wherever her lights avoid, becoming black in the muzzle and hindquarters, mottled in random navy blue.
Stock Images: feathered broche png (tail feathers) | Fan Stock 2 (mane feathers) | I'm unsure which lightning brushes I used, but any should work
Tips: You can either use an image of lightning on "Screen" to make strong, vivid lightning, or you can use a brush. If you use a brush, pick a very light color as the body of the lightning, then turn on "Layer Styles > Outer Glow" with some vivid magenta and duplicate the layer until you're satisfied about it. I find sharpening lightning creates a better effect than leaving it be, as well. For this horse, think of it as purple wherever the lightning is near that slowly gradients to darker and darker purple/blue until it is black, so the points furthest from the lightning (hindquarters, back legs, muzzle, belly, chest) are mostly black.
Colors: Brightest purple/blue body: 5b1cbb | Darker purple/blue body: 21174c | Almost black body: 050212 | Lightning: f5deff | Lightning glow: d451ff | Eyes: fb3dff | Blue feathers & hair: 291b6c | Purple feathers & hair: 461f4d | Front hooves: f68aff | Back hooves: 06050d
4. Wavetide [bought and paid for by How-You-Remind-Me ]
Description: He rises from the sea's banks; he brings with him the depths. As unpredictable as the ocean which birthed him, his pale blue hide is interrupted with white along his hind legs and shoulders, which are also flecked in foam spray. From there surges geysers of water, forming river-speckled wings, and similar mists billow up from his front right hoof. Though he has a regular tail of similar soft sapphire, his neck is capped in blue to gradient white coral, peaking as it stretches out from his ears almost like a horn. The same coral, though smaller and ivory, follows along a white swirl marking that halves his otherwise-blue eyes and curls behind his nostrils.
Stock Images: white coral (head and neck coral) | Water Stock (water wings) | agua png (hoof water) | agua png (hoof water)
Tips: For the water "wing" stock I chose, you can change the layer to "Screen" to have instant transparency. Another option is to layer a few stock pieces of water PNGs, which are all over dA if you search for them, and that can give you more interesting shapes and movement. The coral is pretty easy to blend in, just select the body shape of the horse so that you don't accidentally erase beyond its edges, then use a soft erase brush to slowly blend the coral in. Making different coral branches begin in different places versus a straight line will make it look more realistic and you can always paint some fur over the bases of the coral.
Colors: Blue body: 3c4b64 | Hindleg & shoulder white body: 959a97 | Back and front right hooves: eeeeea | Front left hoof: 1f304b | White face swirl: ababab | Tail: 4c5b77 | Blue coral: 3c5079 | Blue coral pale tips: d8f2f8 | White coral: c7c4bb | Blue eye half: 7f8aa8 | White eye half: cbcccf
5. Starway [bought and paid for by firenze-design ]
Description: Blanketed in black and white galaxies, his dark body is illuminated by stars densely circulating his shoulders and forming wing-like appendages. The glowing dust arranges a halo from his chest and circles his nebula eye, staring through flesh and soul alike. A disposition as deep and endless as space, he carries little emotion in his imposing presence. His chopped black mane is streaked in blue-tinged white and his tail transitions from dusky black to faintly yellowed gray to an icy white.
Stock Images: Universe - heic0602a (eye nebula)
Tips: Use any normal feathered wing to get the shape gist. Begin putting down stars, whether with a brush or an image on "Screen," on a clipping layer so it stays strictly to the shape of a wing. Make sure you completely cover the wing stock. Then, extend more stars beyond the wing tips, letting it "fade out" a bit, using the eraser as needed. It should be clearly wings but also clearly intangible and made of stars instead of feathered wings decorated in stars. Turning on "Layer Style > Outer Glow" for the stars can make a much stronger impression and you can duplicate the layer until it feels bright enough.
Colors: Dusky black body: 11100e | Tan-ish grey body: 6e6761 | Stars: fefaf7 | Tan eye nebula: cfafa1 | Blue eye nebula: a1a5af | Dark tail: 33302c | Medium-transitioned tail: 5e5044 | Tail tips: b5c2c4 | Black mane: 14120f | White mane: ced5d5
6. Webspun [bought and paid for by Mafia--xX ]
Description: A wraith that summons a chill down every spine and prickles down every arm, his arachnid body moves with unnerving speed and grace, using six legs unnatural in strength. Four eyes stare out from green-yellow stripes on his countenance, a brief color interruption in his blackened coat. Three shadow-drenched pillars fan out from his withers, unbreakable spiderwebs spun between for flight. Rough fur lines his neck and identical tufts embellish the top and end of his lion-like tail.
Stock Images: wings stock wired 2 (wing structure - a lot of it erased) Monsterpack-02 (neck & tail fur - black hound used)
Colors: Black body: 111110 | Yellow-green face marking: 4d491a | Eyes: aeaa56 | Mane & tail fur: 19190b | Wing structures: 121207 | Webs: 7b7b7a

Hope to see you do more!

I definitely will be! I still have several unreleased ones, including more "normal" pegasi albeit still with a fantasy twist. Is there anything in particular you like about the ab'd designs that I can be sure to have future adoptables have some similarity to?

That's wonderful! I'll keep my eyes open! I particularly love galaxy characters, and especially pegasi.
Also anything involving cherry blossom trees or other interesting trees.
The thing I like about the Webspun design is it is really different.
Good amount of creepy, and beauty all in one. Would love to see some reptilian or fish related ones.
Just to give you a few ideas c:

Awesome, thank you so much for the feedback, it definitely helps to have an idea of what people want! All of my adoptables were basically spun from the thought of "uhhh what can I do with the stock I have on this computer since I have no internet to look for more..." and was more about stretching my creativity than trying to figure out what people may truly want. Now that I've started releasing them, I haven't had any true feedback to see what people might want to see more of, I can only see which ones are getting more bids than others--and honestly I have been continually surprised about certain designs doing bad and some doing good, it's been reversed from my expectations almost every time. xD Pulling up my master sheet to look at all adopts I already have made, I have a few more galaxy non-pegasi designs, a few more pegasi (fire-themed, crystal-themed, dragonfly-like, and tree-themed), a few more creepy-feeling ones, and one with cherry blossoms incorporated. Doesn't look like I have any reptilian or fish ones, interestingly enough, so I'll put that idea down on my list of "future adopt designs." Again, thank you very very much for helping me hash out the ideas better, though no pressure to ever buy in the future! Hopefully you'll see one worth purchasing at some point! ^^

You're very welcome. I'm having the same thing happen.
Some of my best designs are doing horribly, and some I consider my worst are doing great.
Do you have any other adopts currently open?

Interesting phenomenon, innit? Frustrating, though, for when you're trying to plan new adopts lol
Not yet but I'll be getting a new batch together soon. I'm thinking I'll do a random batch rather than a themed batch, cuz the only theme I have left is elemental and I'd rather not do 2 themed adopts back to back and then have nothing but randoms after that xD If you'd like, I can always tag you when I upload them so you get notification and hopefully have time to see them before they're sold or closed. You'd be under absolutely no obligation to bid or even respond, but it's something I offer for people who might miss the designs since they go pretty quickly and I know how it sucks to never have the chance to decide for yourself if you want something or not
