The Giving Tree Revisited

i am Your Giving Tree,
Giving You all i ever had.
But no matter how hard i tried,
No matter what i gave,
i was never good enough for You.

Whatever You wanted,
i got You.
Whatever You needed,
i gave to You.
Yet You still don’t see my love.

When You asked of me,
i gave You my body,
In which to climb upon.
But all You did was only complained,
That i was an inch too short.

When You were hungry,
i gave You my very flesh
For You to eat.
But all i was to You then, Was an apple too short.

When You needed heat,
i gave to You my very limb
For You to burn.
But even when You were warm.
You said i was a log too short.

When You requested shelter,
i gave You all i had left,
For You to build a home.
But before You finished,
You said i was a board too short.

Now i am nothing but a stump,
But when i saw You coming,
i stood so proud and tall,
But You took one look at me,
And told me i was just too short.

So now,
After all i suffered through,
All in hopes of making You happy,
And hope for You to know I was here,
You told me these words.

“When I wanted someplace to climb,
you gave Me your body,
But you were never tall enough
For Me to touch the clouds.

“When I wanted food,
you gave Me your very flesh,
But never enough
To satisfy My endless hunger.

“When I needed heat,
you gave Me your limbs,
But it was never enough
For Me to make a fire for all to see.

“When I demanded shelter,
you gave Me your entire body,
But you did not give Me enough
For Me to build my dreams.

“When I needed a place to rest,
you offered Me your mutilated body,
But you are too ugly
For Me to want to sit.

“you are worthless to Me,
you mean nothing to Me.
you never did anything for Me,
Except waste My time.”

So You stare down on me,
Glaring with utter disdain.
You shout out Your frustration with me,
As You swing the ax.
“you have failed Me forever!”

As Your spiteful words sink in,
The ax severs my body,
Delivering not only Your hate for me,
But also,
Ending my pain of having failed You.
