True, he does have that regal yet evil look to him, I can see it in his eyes... although his clawed hands kinda give that away, as if any 'Good Bot' has claws like that... with the exception of E-123 Omega of course.

I really love that design - it does look more good guy than bad - but that makes it even more awesome he is truly a villain :3

haha very protoss indeed.
but yeah ornamental mechs are too complicated to use in movied I think. For that kind of mech your best bet is to watch escaflowne.

Wow, his gun is literally fired from the hip! And I see what you're saying about not being represented in Hollywood enough and too much in Japanese stuff.
And at first glance I would've guessed he was a paladin like good guy till you told me otherwise.

Why do villain always seem to look as thought they are holding an invisible cup from the bottom? Is that some sort of universal "HEY! I'm a villain. I'm totally here to do villainous things!"?

I think the reason for there general absence of them in the movies is that they would be hard and costly. trying to make convincing medieval armor proves difficult enough, especially for some of those detail buffs. Imagine trying to make armor like this here, making it look just as formidable, just as real, and just as effective, and just as presentable...I'm no expert, but it sounds like a pretty hefty task if you ask me, considering the quality of this design.
Also another reason I believe is the cultural and demographically...demographicness...demographical...demograph stuff-ness. As you said, it seems to be more common in jrpgs, which generally come from the East. Also movies and games have different audiences for the most part. Sure they're movies of games and games of movies but their interaction isn't as strong as say, between movies and books. Whatever the reason, it seems it'll just need the ice to be broken.
This has a very cool feel: The medieval yet futuristic feel that many try to capture (but not all succeed ) so kudos to you. Something 'bout it, though, those lights, for whatever reason, remind me of Samus Aran's armor from Metroid. I don't get it either. FAV-ed
