Yep, you're right...this was one of the most memorable scenes from Sonic X, at least for me.
Even if it wasn't an outright expression of love, Sonic proved he cared enough about Amy's well-being (as he said in Sonic Boom) to visit her first.
And I feel your artwork is an excellent re-creation of that scene, with the lighting just right.
