Fun fact: He actually does. I remember a screencap from some early Boom merchandise (if I remember correctly, it was a book) suggesting that Amy is his love interest (I don't have a source atm, but I'll try to find one). I also saw a theory on Tumblr a while ago that suggests Sonic and Amy are secretly dating, which would be cool if it turns out to be canon.
