Description Costume reference for Beckett's pimp coat... for women!

I've been on a major Tom Hollander spree, so I just had to sketch out the silly deep purple velvet pimp coat
To see how would it look on a female body. Well, on mine that is. And to be honest, it looks fabulous!!! So if your cosplay group is missing a Beckett (you see I'm pretty much his size as well), please send me a note... I'm dying for the slightest of reasons to make this one!

Since I am 5'4'' and rather womanly, (am not going to put measurements here!) with a waist slightly smaller and hips slightly wider than your usual clothes sizing would allow so there are a few alterations to the coat.

The waiscoat would be a little shorter than with male, since it would be, well, sexier The buttons at the back would be far higher since female back is curvier than that of male. And the pockets would be diagonal since I think that looks nicer.
Actually, not so many alterations since the fashion of men in the 18th century was adopting the female curves... with pleads in the helm and cravats to the bosom and lean shoulders and don't let me get started with the calves...

A bit scruffy since these were meant to be just notes to myself. Then I thought maybe there are people out there, silly girls like me, thinking of cosplay and would like to see how costumes designed for men would look like on them.

Now that I'm on it, I might as well do one with Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann. (And Will if you ask nicely) Now you might say Lizzie is a girl, I knock you with the fact that few women share Keira's bodytype. Even if she'd be of normal weight - or even fat - she'd never be as curvy as some of us.

And if you even think of using these without permission, may the Maker send plague to you and all your family! It isn't too hard to ASK you know...

He does look like a pimp...not that I would know...LOL! Thanx for your design series of 18th Century naval coats for women. I did something similar (didn't upload) and thought I was the only one

Hee... And I found that pimp cane of his in a magician store... it says "squeak" when it touches the ground.

My sewing project last year was to try and make a Beckett outfit. But that was before I got my sewing machine and thus it ended up being full of epic fail. Although, the shirt I made for it turned out rather nicely. So nicely in fact that I'll be using that shirt with my lieutenant's uniform because I'm too lazy to make another one.

But I do plan on trying to make another Beckett outfit in the future...

Oh my! I'd love to make a ruffled shirt too... Though I'm a bit lazy as well, and I just found some cheap men's shirts and I've been thinking of ruffling them instead.

I think that one would go as it is as a coat for special events. It would look great with a long skirt, or with black trousers. Then if it's made down to earth a bit, with modern fabric (that repels water instead of absorbing it ) and the details not gold but nearly same shade as the coat, well at least I would wear it as any other coat.
Unfortunately we don't have much events like Cons or Reneissance Fairs around here...

There aren't that many events like that around here, just one Renaissance Fair over the summer. There's a big comic book show that I go to in summer too, but I think I'd look a little out of place wearing a lieutenant's uniform to that. If I was making a Norrington or Beckett costume, I might wear it there because there have been POTC cosplayers at the comic show in the past. But a generic RN lieutenant might look a bit odd...

There is the Hornblower con in San Diego in the autumn...
I know... But I'm hoping because this and the next year will be the 200th anniversary of 1808-9 war in Finland, I'm hoping maybe to attend some of their events... I know that re-enactment is a poorly... okay, pretty non-exist here (last year they had polish re-enactment group to perform) so it would be great to be there clad in Napoleonic costume Even if it would be English... Though the over-the-knee boots they had in the cavalry here looks quite... well, something to gain people's attention
I'm hoping maybe someone would come with me to the comic book show up here too... they have cosplay tour there, but unfortunately it's all anime/manga Anyway, they are happy to see people in ANY costume, though you can't take part to the competition...

Hey, any excuse to dress-up is a good excuse in my book!

May Day is coming... that is when Finns dress up goofily and drink too much. I rather do the first part so I'm hoping to get some sort of coat made before that.
Maybe I can get my Sparrow-fan sister to dress up with me; she was curiously fingering some rasta wigs last time we went shopping together...
