“Hey Kennedy.

Yeah… mostly ok. ‘reason for getting in touch is Austin needs to meet with you soon about a problem.

Oh.. a week? What about Juli?

Now? At that art studio?

OK.. bye.”

She set the phone down and looked at Austin. “She’s on vacation, but Juli isn’t and should be at that art studio today.. like now. Wanna go over?”

“Now?”

“Yeah.. I need to get some things done anyway. ‘trust her enough for an hour or two?”

He hated those sort of questions.

“Sure, but what if she isn’t there?’

“We’ll get out. It’ll be good.” She grabbed her keys “Wanna go in the purse or ride with me?”

“You mean on your shoulder or something?”

She pointed to a breast pocket. “You could, but this’s probably better.”

He looked up, but didn’t respond immediately.

“Don’t worry .. it’s a sports bra and I’m pretty flat anyway.” she continued as she moved her hand towards him.

“It’s probably better than the bag.” He climbed onto her waiting palm and soon was at pocket level.
 “Wanna go in on your own, or ..?”

“Just open it a bit.”

Fingers from her other hand held the outside of the pocket about two feet out. “OK?”

Austin partly laid down and slid in holding onto the outside edge until his feet met the bottom. It was about seven feet from top to bottom.

“I’m in”

She started towards the door. “Let me how this is. I can try and walk slower…”

It was different from the purse. The up and down motion was there, but the swinging was almost gone. The back of the pocket sometimes hit her bra, but that was a solid wall.

“So far so good.”

She sat down and pulled the shoulder harness on.

“Good thing you’re in the right pocket, eh?”

Some light filtered through the fabric and more from above. He could hear the surroundings much better than in the bag. It was tempting to pull himself up for a view like he did on the ride over, but they were on campus now and were walking among giants. Their talking and shadows gave them away. He tried to place where they were, but the tree canopy went away too soon throwing his sense of direction off.

“Almost there” she said as a huge door opened.

The sounds changed as they went from concrete to the title floor. The hall sounded empty. That’d change in a week with Fall term beginning.

“I forget the room.” she said “you remember?”

“122”

“Thanks.. I see it.”

This time the door was wood.

“Juli?”

“Keri!”

“Austin’s here too.” She bent over and put her palm to the pocket. “ok?”

He climbed on and grabbed her thumb for stability. “I’m out.”

She straightened up. The room was familiar and enormous. Juli walked towards them. From this vantage he realized she was quite a bit shorter than Keri, but probably still well above average. It hard to tell with giants unless they were next to each other.

“You can put him down on that table with the little house on it” she said

Now he was standing on a table looking up at the two giants. Keri was looking at Juli.

“I’ve gotta run some errands. I can be back in ninety minutes.”

“Take your time. We’ve probably got a lot to do.”

“See ya!” the taller/thinner giant said as she left.

“Hey there! I’ve got some stuff to show you.” Juli said as she bent down closer to his level. “I was talking to Tanya yesterday..”

“She got in touch too.. She wanted to see if we can figure out some way to make face to face easier.”

“It must be weirder than with us..”

“Way weirder…”

“I made this last night” she said as she got back up and walked over to another part of the room. Coming back she set a large red cube behind him. “It’s just an idea. We can flesh out if you like it. The walls are thin, but strong. One side’s open, but it could be closed and air holes put in. I figure you could stand in it and she could pick it up and move you some place where she could talk better. It’s red so she’d notice it better.”

She put two large objects in front of him and came down even closer his level . “ ‘just erasers, but they might make great stools. The thin part’s a centimeter thick so that should be about the same as a stair step. On this side about twice as much. They’re non stick and all of us could carry some in our purses.”

“clever”

“Sometimes the best stuff’s right in front of you” she said pushing her sunglasses higher on her head. “The cube’s eighty inches. It should be big enough for you, but might be too small for her.. it’s like nine tenths of her inches.

A chill went down his spine as he held his thumb and index finger apart and realized what he must look like to her. He studied the cube for awhile and turne back to her. She had come down a bit more.. probably as low as she could comfortably kneel. He stretched his arms out.

“ ‘more than big enough for me. If it works for her”

“Sweet. I’ll make a bigger one too.. maybe ten feet .. just in case” she paused a bit. “I’ve been working on other things.. mostly getting those damn cars working. And this little house.. it’s based on one of those tiny houses and was a cheap 3d model. I figure if it works we could make a lot of ‘em and leave ‘em where you might be.”
