Well it's a good thing it's frozen.

I agree- I suspect I know what lake this is on, but where along it?

And it reminds me that I need to get down to the beach when things freeze over again, and start taking my own pics.

Your guess is probly right. This winter has been a bit on the blaa! side.  Experiencing cabin fever, i had to get out and do something. I feel much better now.

Thanks, Duane!  I pointed out these three pics to my wife--who was, like me, jealous!  We tried all last winter to get ice shards, with no luck, along L. Ontario.  I'm sure they were out there somewhere, but L. Ontario is a big lake!

What would you say are the perfect conditions for this sort of thing?

That would depend on the weather. The last few weeks here in the Niagara Region.
Temperatures here have stayed below 0, enough to create the ice dunes and a good layer of ice to walk on safely. With the recent warm weather and warm winds. Some of the ice melts and the winds and water melt create these, " what i call the perfect conditions". I have been visiting this place since 07, all four seasons of the year and taken notice to the surroundings. Just keep an eye on the weather, timing is important. Lets things freeze up for a few weeks . To early, everything is frozen solid, too late, you miss the money shots. Then it's all gone till next winter. I hope this is helpful for you.
