*a couple of hours after Promethium retired to her chambers for the evening, a gust of wind blew and a message it had been carrying landed on Kitty's face*

Kitty: Goodness... who is this from, I wonder. *she took a good look at it and saw the name "Emeraldas" written in red ink* It is from Emeraldas... but who is it addressed to? *she looked again and saw Promethium's name on the envelope* She wrote to her mother? I'll hold onto it until morning. *then she felt Maetel stir* Hmm? *looks down at her and whispers* What is it, Maetel?

I've gotta dig it up, since it was last year's Ohayocon, but I was so grateful the Chair lady is a huge Matsumoto fan. It was really facinating on how things interweave and how nearly every single element is used from The Cockpit to Yamato to Harlock. It's quite amazing!

Hmm...I've been wondering about Mayu's hair color myself here, recently (and trying to think of a good way to get a previous queen drawn that had that hair color, since I usually think of Mayu being kind-of a 'throw back' of sorts...) ^ ^;;

I am thinking that Yayoi is the older sister of both she and Selena. We never see Selena in the Queen of 1K years, just her ship. Once Yayoi has both Emeraldas and Maetel, we never see her at all, so I am thinking that she is dead, or gone from Lar Metal for some reason. I imagine her to be tall, warriorlike and not at all gentle, like Emeraldas, in fact!

I also think that she would have been a good instructor for the Young Harlock, if she was still alive by that time. I've toyed with the idea of Selena being an instructor at the military academy Harlock attends as a young teen, learning the art of war. (Another fanfic idea I'm playing with)

I think that we see Leiji-San mirroring Yayoi and Selena with Maetal and Emeraldas. The only difference appears that Em is older than Maetal. So, this is why I struggle with the idea of Flame versus Blue. Grr.

What about this, Yayoi and Selena's mother was blue? Or perhaps Selena was a mixture of blue and ginger, although I can't even imagine how that would look! I would suspect that we should see Selena as a Blue, and then Em would be reminded more of her aunt than her mother...

What would be neat is a locket worn by Emeraldas that shows the Aunt she favors. Maetal wears their father's locket, Em wears Selena's. Perhaps the Grandmama is on one side and Selena on the other?

There are so many cool ways I think that you could pull this off with your skill in the Matsumoto women....

I haven't been able to see Queen of a Thousand Years yet (most of the time, the US is lousy about releasing older series and movies on DVD or Blue-Ray.....), so I've been wondering what Prometheum's backstory was like.

And I agree with you about Selena, since that would be a good mirroring of Emeraldas and Maetel (and I think by the time 'Maetel Legend' happens, Selena would have left her homeworld far behind her)

I suffered through the whole Harmony Gold thing on vcr tapes. Near as I can tell, Yayoi, the heroine of a queen of 1K, is Promethium before the cold hits Lar Metale. She actually saves the earth from destruction for the sake of a young boy. The two planets are about to collide and earth is to be taken over by the Queen of Millenia. Yayoi prevents this and Selena helps her. Looks like Yayoi and Selena's mom had empire fetishes, as well! Maybe it happens as the girls get older? Hard to say! Keep doing it - these are fun!

Well, think of it this way, at least the scanner hadn't turned one color into another (as a previous scanner I'd had did...the stupid thing turned blue into red and made pics look horrible... > <;; ). And Maetel Legend may not have been the best, but at least it hadn't been as terrible as some anime I can think of...

That's one point that make me prefer digital, even if a real draw it's so much more beautiful when you look at it in person.

Maetel Legend isn't bad compared with many anime out there...it's bad compared to other Matsumoto anime, If you didn't seen it yet, I suggest you to check out Space Symphony Maetel, it's a nice series and i'ts full of fanservice for Leijiverse's Otakus. XD

Actually, I should draw some new Queen Millennia fan art, but I can't come up with a good idea. >.<

Well, I've seen Space Symphony Maetel, and it's a fantastic series! (but I just don't have it in me to bad-mouth any of Matsumoto-sensei's series or movies, lol ^ ^;; )

And even though digital artwork is awesome in its' own right, I don't think I'll ever have the patience for it. I prefer to do the work by hand (and if I even tried to draw using a computer, I'd probably be too tempted to beat the crap out of it, if anything goes wrong and something ends up lost).

Besides, the bigger complaint about Maetel Legend it's a continuity one, but continuity in the Leijiverse it's something that really doesn't exist at all, you may pretty much build up your own story. ^^

Digital it's cool if you can get the hang of it, right now I'm working with paint tool sai and a tablet, it does give some really good results, I'm almost tempted to trace your work to give you an idea on how it could come up.
Of course, just if you would like to see how it could come up too. ^^

You may think so, but I prefer not to. And the 'discontinuity' that goes on in all of Leiji Matsumoto's works shouldn't matter, if you're a true fan (I stopped trying to connect the series together shortly after Harlock Saga came out. Wasn't worth frying my brain over...it also makes writing fanfics more fun, as well. It also might be that Matsumoto himself doesn't try to connect his series because he doesn't want to drive HIMSELF crazy trying to keep both storylines and characters straight! )

And sorry, I'll 'stick by my guns' so to speak, as far as doing things traditionally are concerned. Drawing kept me sane during some very trying times, and I am not about to let a computer do that for me now.

No problem, drawing keep me sane too, even if when I'm drawing I look kinda crazy to every one else! XD

About the leijiverse, there's no continuity, you can think about parallel univese or just take every entry like a slight variation on the big picture, i don't mind it too much, Maetel Legends it's a little heavy on the mechanical men transition, I prefer the old "Trade your body with a mechanical one" from Galaxy Express 999.
But in Maetel Legend it's cool to see Promethium transform slowly, it's more emotional, while in the traditional way she would change right after the operation and it would've been a little boring.

And yes, fanfiction are almost canon from this point of view. °
