I mean, think about it: how did this all start?  Well, Ukrainians all started going nuts because they wanted to hang out with Europe while the government wanted to hang out with Russia.  That guy gets thrown out, and then Russia jumps in because he's mad that everyone else wanted to play with the other kids for once >.>

Which gets me confused on just how many people wanted to hang out with Europe.  After the president of Ukraine left, suddenly there were people that were pro-Russian yelling like mad, apparently mad that there were people that were pro-Europe.  So the country is 50-50 on liking Russia?
Then again, most of the people from the Soviet Union are still alive...

So it's not so much as Ukraine trying to fight for her freedom with Russia as it is Ukraine is having one big tsundere moment of whether or not to stay close to her overly-protective big brother or go hang out with her newly found friends from Gakuen Hetalia?
Yeah, I guess that makes sense.

Hyhtgifa In reply to HotaruMitsuki101 [2014-03-06 13:29:35 +0000 UTC]

Well, the problem is that the west wants to cut off all ties to Russia, which is culturally absurd - Belarus, Ukraine and Russia ethnics are the most genetically, historically, culturally and language-wise nations of the Europe. Calling it brotherhood is very true. There is a lot of pro-EU and anti-Russia agenda, including TV, newspapers, education etc
And east, well, east is more pro-Russia, and as a result... lazy, until enemies start knocking on their doors. Which is why the situation is getting so tense in the east. While the revolution was happeining in the west, the east didn't care much, but now they feel angry, since no one really asked their opinion in the matter
Ukraine is like a yandere little sister with a split personality disorder

Well, with Russia still recovering from the whole "Soviet Union" drug, I'm not surprised that the West is trying to do that.  Not to mention that in almost every single media, if it's not the Nazis that are the bad guys, it's the Russians.  If we can't let go of German Nazis about a century after it happened, what makes you think they'll let go of Russia when they're only twenty years sober?

I guess my question for them is "when people started rebelling in Kiev, why didn't you go ahead and throw a protest of your own?  Heck, throw the whole country into more chaos by replacing the police there and just have full protest-protest war", but then I realized that only Americans do that, so I decided it was a bad question.

Wow.  And here I thought Belarus was poorly characterized.  Himaruya just mixed up character scripts >.>

The problem is that lots of these nationalists are worshipping nazis and Bandera troops. They are quite aggressive. Being a patriot and being a nationalist is different. They try to make people believe that russians and ukranians have no connection whatsoever. I get it that people want to be a part of EU, it is economicaly better, but do they have to destroy our historical and cultural ties and history?

Yeah, I guess only west can do that. And arabian folk. Slavs, eaterns especially... we are slow, we are lazy, and unless our lives are threatened, no one does anything. Besides, we are used to such protests, but this time they actually prepared, actually planned it. And, Yanukovich is a pretty bad president, he is neither pro-russian or pro-eum he is pro-money: whatever side offers more profit, he joins it. Probably the main reason he stopped a contract is because if he did that, eventually he would get arrested so someone like Timoshenko would replace him. I don't feel sorry to him, he did nothing to prevent all of this

Yeah...people are weird like that.  Love the governement?  Must be a conservative!  Hate the government?  Must be a rebel!  Middle ground apparently doesn't exist anymore.  It sucks.  And I think people are freaking out because Ukraine and Russia were connected one time and the West wants to keep them seperate countries.  I mean, let's face it: if England tries to absorb Scotland into their boundaries, we'd freak out just as much as we are now.

Wow, seriously?  I think half of this conflict would've been stopped (or I guess we would still be seeing the whole Kiev incident) if both sides were loudly talking about their side of the issue and showed the world just how divided they are about the issue.  I think that's the reason why I like America so much: if people are half and half on an issue, we're loudly proclaiming it, so that everyone knows who is on what side.  In this case, I seriously thought that Ukraine totally wanted to be part of the EU, and it was only after that was done that I heard that an entire half of Ukraine totally wanted to stay in Russia's care.  If that was America, people would've known how deeply divided we were.  Maybe that's why we're so biased on Ukraine, because we're so iffy on the issue >.>

It's not realistic at all.  But I guess Ukraine as a yandere shocks me, that's all.

Hyhtgifa In reply to HotaruMitsuki101 [2014-03-06 17:04:12 +0000 UTC]

But Scotland and UK were never ethnically one thing, we used to be very connected and still are. Lots of ukranian live in Russia, like my dad, lots of russians live in Ukraine. It only makes sense that we stay connected. Besides, let's be honest, if a country, western, eastern, any, needs power, it will do anything to achieve it. That's how politics work

Well, good thing about you west folk and one of the reasons you are so progressive, if because you are loud. Government and elite groups have to take your opinion into account, they try to control it with mass media and education, logically. But they still depend on you and you know it. We? Eh, we are very fatalist

Hm, wasn't there a song or dialogue between Ukraine and Belarus where it was hinted that Ukraine is even scaries than Belarus?

So then...well, I'm trying to find another example, but I'm severely lacking in thinking of one.  Maybe Spain and Portugal is a better example?  Maybe.  And yeah, politics are crap.  Too bad they're one way away from anarchy.

Well...yeah.  It's a good thing that we're so loud, because at least everyone knows that we're talking about it.  It's also horrible because it has the side effect of NOTHING GETTING DONE AT ALL, since we're all so radical all the time.  At least in your side of the world, stuff gets done.

That would work if every single country did that.  If just one country went just a bit overboard, we all have to focus on them so that these ideals are held up.  It's the bad side of trying to run a part of the world: you don't really work well if everyone else is having issues.

So you guys are just as procrastinating as we are?  Fantastic.  Maybe this should tell the world that if something this big happens, all sides of the argument should be screaming to the media so that we can all not be biased when the other side suddenly shows up.  Seriously.  If Crimea had only spoken up when Kiev was on fire, you would bet there'd be more sympahtizers with those guys when Russia started rolling tanks.  They'd still hate Russia, but at least we know that this is...I dunno, consensual rape?  That a good phrase for this?

I can't remember the song, to be honest, but that's the only song with Ukraine and Belarus in it.
They wouldn't cover it.  It's way too huge and too NOW to do so.  Heck, they wouldn't even cover the freaking Holocaust.

Every single country, capable of ifluence on other country does that. It's just economics: fund organistations and groups that advance politics you like, make sure an opposition is too busy to notice or too weak to fight. Some, though, try to do that through more assertive means, some try to do it in polite way - smiling and waving, smiling and waving. Hey, history is one bloody mess, if you look at it XD

No one thought it would come to that. no one expected, but from what I've heard they've been planning to do sth like that during the next preident elections, if Yanukovich would win. But since the recent rejection of accepting na offer to become part of EU resource countries, they had a better reason to start riots. I guess either our country and supporters are too slow or stupid to predict that, or they did not expect it to happen so suddenly.

True. I mean, the main heroes are the Axes, and WWII is connected to it, and everything is so shiny and smiley and happy... Heh, wish politics were this funny

HotaruMitsuki101 In reply to Hyhtgifa [2014-03-07 20:43:06 +0000 UTC]

It really is.  It's just nice to know that every single path we try to run ourselves is filled with assholes who run our lives.  It makes our politics seem a lot tamer in comparison.  Yeah, we're run by corrupt government officials, but at the very least we can still openly complain about it.  You hear that, NRA?  We all think you're assholes, but at least you're better than Kim Jong Un.  Put that up in your messageboards when you're feeling crappy about your job I dunno why I just said that.

Seriously?  You'd figure they would say something when Kiev happened so that Yanukovich would have a rally point to stay in the country.  Then the protesters can stop bombing police officers and start yelling at each other...and start a civil war...and kill more people- yeah, maybe that's a bad idea.  And don't worry: all supporters are too slow and stupid to predict anything.  They take whatever happens.  Though I still stress that someone should've said SOMETHING to the media during the entire incident so that the entire EU wouldn't think that Ukraine was unanimously pro-EU and act a bit more accordingly.  Do you mind having Crimea as part of Russia?

American politics is funny.  We had a guy who stated that legitimate rape doesn't cause pregnancies because during a rape, the female body knows how to block out the sperm.  The only problem is that the only animal that can do that are ducks.  Republicans FTW.

Heheh XD Yeah, this is definitelly a good thing to remind them sometimes

We should have, that's true, but no one likes Yanukovich, to be honest. Neither russian or ukranian supporters, he robbed country and always supported whoever offered a better deal. But he was a legitimate president and one of few "calm" politicians in power. To be frank, Ukranian poltiical system has been a mess ever since USSR collapsed: like a giant circius, full of pro-fascist nationalist, claiming that russian nation is actually some marsian or mongol oppressor, greedy oligarchs like Yanukovich, dancers, singers, prostitutes and... boxers.
We don't really care that much, to be honest. Crimea used to be a part of Russia, so maybe it is logical. The main thing most anti-new-government people here are worried about are the natonalists coming to power and them being pro-fascists.

Republicans... I never understood why you guys let them be in power XD They're like a combination of zealous socialists and greedy capitalists. I get that they're important in business, but that one time when your government stopped working was kind of their fault, wasn't it? Though, eh, I'm no american, so I don't know much about your political system.

It calms me down whenever people complain about being spied on.  Yeah, being spied on utterly SUCKS, but we still have the freedom to complain about it, meaning that the majority of the information that they're looking for will not be in the hands of complaining citizens.  Hence, even if they are looking at my messages, they're just going to ignore them because it's not like I'm telling you anything they don't.  It's when people I know spy on me that's the problem.  Maybe that's the issue, or maybe I'm just that much of a pushover >.>

Well, I guess that's true.  Any country that just gained independence is a tad messy.  Just look at the Philippines.  Their government is still a bit of a mess, due to them being rung by four other high powered nations.  I can't blame them for being a mess; they were never taught how to walk on their own, so they're just rolling around all over the place.  Then again, I will forever stress that the other side should've ran all over the Internet claiming their side of the story- wait, what's that about boxers?

We have to because the Democrats are apparently too "liberal" for the country, and the Republicans have to be there so that the Democrats don't run out daddy's checkbook and leave the entire nation in debt.  There are reasons why Republicans are there; they're basically the anchor that holds down the supposed naive dreams of the Democrats, but sometimes I can't help but wonder what the heck is wrong with some of them.  Did you know that our government was shut down because the Republicans didn't want to pay for "national health care"?  And it wasn't really national health care, it was spread out health care but "capitalized" enough for our standards.

I had to look this up, but from the looks of it, you have a national health care system in Russia, no?  Well, from what I heard, Obama tried to put out a version like that to Congress, but it was shot down by Republicans for being "too socialist".  Yeah, in this place, socialist = communist, and it's not just Republicans who think that.

Heh, yeah, spying is also kind funny. I recall my groupmate saying that if she starts using Putin's name during a telephone call, the clarity of it becomes better or sth. Maybe she made it up, but spying on the population's talks is nothing new or even really evil. It can save lives... or doom them, depending on the context.
Control of information is inevitable, the truth becomes clear only when some guys like Assange and Snowden start publishing dirty secrets. And then they become hunted for it C'est la vie.

Not everyone knows how to use the Internet, mostly the young generation, and it has been brought up in atmosphere of either hatred, or extreme nationalism.
Klichko, one of the leaders of the new government, used to be a boxer, boxing and stuff.

I know, everyone knows that XD That's why I wonder why you guys let them rule your hand like that. Sure, there needs to be two sides but was the health care system that scary to let a government be shut down for so long?

Yeah, also some of the northern countries have it and probably UK. It really depends on how the government handles it. In my country it is quite messy, because people are lazy, but in UK and countries such as Estonia (I think) it is a great thing. Additional tax, yeah, but no need to pay for doctor's visits.

Eh, yeah, using "communist" as an insult. It's kind of inaccurate, since no communism has ever existed. I get it when people blame Stalinism, but... it is totally not communism or even pure socialism.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HotaruMitsuki101 In reply to Hyhtgifa [2014-03-10 18:21:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's an inevitability.  And if you honestly have not done any kind of horrible things before, what's to hide from?  I did nothing illegal, hence I don't mind if someone sees what I did.  They'll have to deal with all the Yaoi, though XD

Well, the younger generation can teach the older generation Facebook at the very least.  Odd things always start on Facebook, and everyone seems to use that.  Though I guess storming a news studio would work too, if they can't use the Internet.
Oh.  Well, we had an Austrian body builder as governor of California, so I guess that works out for everyone.

I guess they were worried that we wouldn't be able to pay for everyone?  My assumption goes toward all of the illegal immigrants we have coming from Mexico and whether or not the health coverage would cover them.  But still, there are a lot of people that can benefit from this, and the only problem is that the healthy people don't want to pay for health coverage because they think they're fine and that everyone else has to cover for themselves.  It's true until something stupid happens and they can't pay for it.  One of my cousins was completely healthy and didn't want to get a health care plan until my healthy sister got into a car accident and had to go to the hospital.  The problem is that we all want something but no one wants to pay for it.

We were all aiming toward how Canada does it, because he's doing it perfectly fine.  But again, no one wants to do it.  And we Americans can get riled up on the smallest of things.  Its the sad part of having vocal people, but at the very least it's something we're 75% sure of.

It's an insult, but we honestly can't divide the two.
