A commission for/collaboration with my good friend PatrickCharell,whose ongoing encouragement and moral support I deeply appreciate . This gruff,rumpled gent is Monsieur Bartolome Massot, the latest addition to the cast of my Ace and Queenie graphic novel project,THE BROKEN CROSS GAMBIT. Massot is a reclusive Tenant Farmer and caretaker on the vast estate of our villain,the Marquis De Languedoc. Here's Patrick's own description of the character:
"Monsieur Bartolome Massot is one of the most important tenants of the Languedoc property. He cares for some hundreds of hectars of vineyards, wheat, olive trees etc. As the Château itself is built on what is now an integral nature preserve, of course the agricultural acreage is farther away. The Massots are tentants for about two hundred years, loyal, protestants, somehow veeeery conservative and...well...a bit...strange. Foremost the actual Massot: Unmarried, no family in the near surroundings, no close friends (he is just respecting the Marquis, who won't endeepen that either), no guests at all....That makes people a bit queer. So he dislikes uninvited visitors. Toruists also,but most of all,Campers. He hates campers. He shoots at campers, who dare to enter his land.In fact,he dislikes trespassers so vehemently,he once considered ringing the property with land mines! He respects the officials, but he won't help them either. He is so deeply connected with his homeland that he does everything for it, just because it is tradition. So is helping to the Huguenot."
