The halls of Ponyville's hospital fell into silence once more. Half an hour had passed since Applejack's... outburst. Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie slowly cried themselves to sleep, although small drops of tears were still rolling down Fluttershy's cheeks. Rarity frowned, then let them rest and turned to Twilight, who was staring at the end of the hallway ever since Applejack left.

"Are you feeling okay, darling?" white mare asked, as she stood next to her.

"I should go talk to her," Twilight said to Rarity's surprise.

"I- I'm not quite sure if this is a good idea, she didn't look like she wanted to, ehm, talk."

"She was just sad, Rarity."

"We are all sad, Twilight, that does not give Applejack any right to yell at you like this. None of this is your fault."

"I know, but I need to find her anyway," Twilight said. She looked at her white companion, who signed helplessly, then turned her look at two sleeping ponies.

"I will take care of them," Rarity assured her. Two of them shared a look, and Twilight then left her three friends behind in search for the fourth one of them.

In fact, it wasn't much of a search, Twilight knew exactly where she will find Applejack. She stept into the right hallway and saw the said mare just leaving one of the rooms. Rainbow Dash's room. Applejack stood behind the door for a moment, until she heard the sound of clacking hooves and spotted Twilight. She immediately started to walk away.

"Applejack wait!" Twilight shouted, trying to stop the mare from running away. Applejack, indeed, stopped. "Please, Applejack, we need to talk." The young princess continued.

"Ain't... nothin' more... to talk about." Twilight could have easily guess how hard it was for the farm pony to speak right now. Her voice was trembling no matter how much she tried to disguise it.

"Yes, there is. Applejack, you have a full right to be mad at me," the levander mare said as she started to move closer to her friend. She slowed shortly afterwards, as the orange mare shifted tensely. She wasn't allowed to be near her, and beeing aware of reasons behind it, Twilight accepted her friend's wish as she continued speaking, "but please, don't be mad at Rainbow, too. She did it for you, for all of you."

Twilight waited for some reaction from Applejack, but the mare remained quiet. She wasn't sure if she wasn't copable of speaking anymore or just waited for her to explain.

"Just... let me tell you a bit more about it all." And so Twilight went on and started to clean up everything about Rainbow, her departure from hospital and the conditions that came with it, to the silent mare in front of her. "She knew from the very beginning that she's not going to get any better, she just wanted to be with all of us again for once more, she wanted everything to be like it used to. She told the doctors to just let her go, leave her alone. She wanted to forget any of this is happening, but they wouldn't let her. Even after they finally allowed her to leave, they still needed to have her under supervision. She didn't let them spoil the freedom for her, and made an agreement, that there will be one pony out there, who will know everything and who will keep an eye on her, if anything went wrong."

"Why... would she...?" Applejack suddenly asked.

"I said it, she wanted to forget about it and live a life with her friends and family like she used to before all of this mess. She wanted to create some happy memories and have fun with all of us once again. And there would be no fun or adventures if everypony knew about her state, everypony would just be worried sick and won't allow her to do anything. But... we had some good time for a last few months, didn't we?" Twilight tried to force a little encouraging smile on her face despite the fact, that Applejack could not see it.

Applejack slowly came to understand Rainbow's intentions, she saw this rainbow maned mare's hoofprints all over this crazy plan. She couldn't be angry at her, she would have probably acted the same in her place, but still... there was something, that Applejack simply couldn't stop thinking about. That thought, that bit deeply into Applejack's head and couldn't bring peace to her mind. After all, she and Rainbow Dash were best friends, right? Then why... She slowly lowered her head, and Twilight tensed at this sudden movement.

"Why you?"

Twilight jerked at these two simple words, which left Applejack's mouth. She knew it shouldn't get to her that much, but somehow, it did. She breathed out aloud.

"I don't know," she admited, "but I know why it wasn't you." The orange mare didn't make a sound. "The ageement was there for a reason," Twilight continued, as she started to move towards Applejack. "It was meant to protect you all from the horrible trust behind it. To make you feel secure. To make you able to enjoy life. To make you all stay away from this. To make you stay away from this." She was now only a step or two from Applejack, who wasn't even trying to control her trembling body anymore. Tears started to splash on the floor as Twilight's speech went on. "She cared for you a lot. She didn't want you to know, so you can have all this great time together. She wanted you to remember her at her best. If you were the one who knew, none of this would have been possible. No fun, no adventures, no great time. You would always see the danger around her, every little change about her would scare you, having a good time would be the last thing that would come to your mind, as you would keep thinking about how you can help her, even through you already know there's nothing you can do." Applejack burried her face into Twilight's chest, as the levander mare just reached her side, crying. "You wouldn't want to know." Twilight said, as she put her wing over her friend, and with resting her head on her friend's blond mane, she glanced away. "Trust me, I've been there."

Sweet apples and horsefeathers! This took me waaay more time than I thought it would, but it's done! And it's sad! I should stop doing sad things for a while, or people would start to think some stuff about me. Nevermind, I'm kinda curious about what the future has in store for this universe now.
I don't feel the urge to explain anything at this point, hope the story cleaned up everything by itself. (or at least, most of it?)
Or maybe one thing - Applejack broke into tears at the end, because she finds out how deeply Dash actually cared for her this whole time. And she already was pretty emotionally unstable, so... yep, that happend.
