Description A flag for this idea  I had. Yes, the pseudo-Nazi imagery is intentional and speaks to 31st century culture.

Apart from the Fifth Reich, nobody's really a neo-Nazi. What I'm getting at is that the Nazis aren't considered over the top evil by this time. They're an obscure German nationalist movement that almost conquered Europe and killed loads of people, but that was a long time ago and now nobody cares. The Germanic Union admires the Nazis' achievements while severely downplaying their crimes, but they aren't central to the Germanic identity.

What (positive) achievements?

Aside from founding the city where I live, I can't think of many.

From the Germanics' point of view, ushering in the Space Age (the rest of the Solar System credits the Americans and Soviets), ushering in the Gene Age (the inaccuracies of Nazi eugenics are historical footnotes used mostly by people who oppose the GGU) and proving Germanic might by conquering Europe (this is seen as a badass feat, not a heinous crime against humanity).

They sound very misguided.

They exist a thousand years in the future. Perceptions have changed quite a bit since then.

The State of Zion is a strong ally of the GGU.

What are the relations between the Fifth Reich and the GGU? Rival governments?

The difference is that the Mongol conquerers did not severely weaken their homeland. You can argue that Temüjin's rise and his empire were not something bad for the Mongols. On the other hand, Hitler and the Nazis were a disaster for Germany, the worst since the Thirty Years' War.

Nothing a few centuries of historical revisionism can't quietly brush under the rug.
