Description This is my cover of the first Telephone Map game  on AH.com. I didn't participate in this one, but I thought it would be interesting to cover anyway. Many thanks to the participants: ReagentUpvoteanthologyzalezskyKurarunAlex Richards , and  LSCatilina .

I had to make some modifications to make this all work. Ignore the chronology depicted on the original maps and posts: what I have in mind here is the Hindian Empire arising a bit earlier than on upvote's map, and Zunbil later taking over from the Hindians after a major dynastic crisis. The Hindian Empire is a product of the Rashtrakutas, as upvote says. With the PoD that early, Islam here refers to a slightly different religion, but it is still called Islam and would be recognizable as Islam by people from OTL. The Muslims do go on their invasions weakening the Sassanids, which actually paves the way for the Hindian invasion. Hinduism penetrates the Middle East, being replaced with Zunism later, with those wars more or less happening as zalezky depicts them. The fall of Zunbil's empire happens as Krall depicts it, and his chronology is accurate here.

I decided to keep the theme of religion present on Krall's entry. Zunism pushes Islam out of the Middle East, and itself is pushed out by Christianity in North Africa and the Middle East. A Muslim Moroccan/southern Spanish state persists long enough to discover the New World and found a caliphate there. Otherwise, Islam is reduced to the Arabian Peninsula, and a united, Christian Roman Empire governed from Constantinople rules until about the 1500s. Then, dynastic and religious disputes come to a head, leading to the redivision of the Roman Empire into three parts: Western Rome, Eastern Rome, and Egypt. Western Rome becomes a dominant colonial power, and is momentarily eclipsed by Galha, before making a comeback in the 19th century. A Hindu revival pushes Zunism out of central India in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the East, the dynastic cycle continues on, although recently the Wan Dynasty's collapse has led to the resurgence of the Khitan Empire (which always had some control over northern China), and the rise of a Western Rite Christian, republican China in the south.

Religion remains very important, with the primary conflict between Western Rite and Eastern Rite Christianity. The Roman Empire and the Patriarchate of Alexandria are the most powerful states on Earth, leading their rival blocs. Other regional powers include the Norse, the Muslims, and Khitan. The Norse remain pagan, and they along with the Muslims and Khitan have a lot of economic power from the fossil fuel industry. Religiosity varies: the Europeans are very religious, while Asia is more secular. Zunism has become restrained, its golden age long passed. Government-wise, most governments remain autocratic monarchies or empires, although the Roman Senate does now have serious powers to check the Roman Emperor. The reason the Avars and the Teutons are considered rogue states is mostly because of religion: the Teutons are Christians, but of a sort considered heretical by both the Eastern and Western Rites, and the Avars have their own, strange monothestic religion that fuses Christianity with Zunism.

Is there a societal difference between the Western and Eastern Rites?

Is Islam one of the religions that's less zealous and more moderate and modernized now?

My neck of the woods looks sliced up between the New Romans, the Khitans, and the New Qurtubans.

What's the tech level in this setting, same present-day LCDs, internet and all that fun stuff we have or did technological development have delays or go different paths altogether?

I picture the tech being similar to ours.

Similar enough to not really notice any major differences from OTL, it sounds like? Just different aesthetics with 1500 years of divergence.

I'm no engineer, so things are different but not so different that they don't work. I don't know anything beyond that.

"I've begun worshipping Zun for a number of reasons. First of all, unlike some other gods I could mention, I can see Zun. He's there for me every day. And the things He brings me are quite apparent all the time: heat, light, food, and a lovely day."

At least you didn't make a "Zunni" pun.
